Description

Established COE campground on the Eastern shore of Success Lake, a fishing and boating reservoir southwest of Sequoia National Park. Located between Rt 190 and the water, there is plenty of traffic during the day (noisy due to lots of large trucks); less noise at night. Electricity at some sites. Camp host. Reservable on recreation.gov, with some sites FF, though it is not exactly clear how to determine which sites are available without interacting with the host. No pay envelopes or instructions at the campground whatsoever. Pay stations are for day use, while the camp host seemed to be only available at the registration desk a couple hours in the morning. Meanwhile, the sites are large; some with trees. Covered picnic tables. Bathrooms clean. Hot showers. Water spigots between sites - you'll need a long hose. Of course the weather always seems to be perfect here in California. Not outrageously priced like other private campgrounds nearby. $15/day for electric site with Senior Pass. Bound to be busy on the weekend with local boaters and watersport enthusiasts. No permacampers seen here.

Latest Check-Ins

The lake on one side and snow capped mountains on the other. Birds are singing and scent of orange blossoms heavy in the air this morning. This COE campground is nice but noisy. Reservations at recreation.gov for $30 a night or less with interagency annual pass.

basic campground, very busy, no good swimming access but a big lake for boats/kayak, showers and restroom were ok

Report Check-In

Nice campground with spaced out sites. Stayed at a non-electric site that had potable water. Bathrooms were clean and showers are available. Came during the week and only a few other people were here as well. Next to a road so you can hear cars drive by but it didn’t bother us. Chose this place because it is close to Sequoia National Park.

As others have noted, wide spaces that are fairly level. We reserved one with electricity during the week, no problems doing so just a few days before, but the weekends seem busy. Potable water had a strong chlorine smell and taste during our stay, a water filter might help with that. Bathrooms seemed clean enough. Lake had a very low level. several other campers around us, but it was relatively quiet.

Great campsites right on the lake. There are hook-ups $20. $15 with a National Park pass. Clean well kept. Showers, potable water, restrooms. Need a boat permit if you plan on boating.

Price went up this year, it's now $20 for non electric site or $30 with electricity. Lots of space left on a Friday night. Looks like it's first in forest serve. But I was able to book same day on their website. Several boat ramps by the lake.

Report Check-In

We stayed 2 nights. Arrived to disgusting toilet blocks and showers. Bugs, mud, huge amounts of hair, toothpaste in sink. Shower floors filthy, drains full of hair. Soap caked faucets. Bugs on walls, spiders in corners. Dirt caked everywhere.
We watched site trucks and carts drive around and around but no cleaning was done other than remove some tissue and empty trash cans. The sites are not level and to get to shower blocks you walk along a muddy churned up gravel road or through grass with tons of vermin holes easy to twist an ankle.
This is by far the most disgusting campground we have ever stayed in 18 months of travel.
