Description

Gorgeous tucked away spot right next to Lake Superior. 4 campsites available. DO NOT take W Oak Ridge Rd, it was flooded for us, also very narrow with low branches. We took W Wild Cat Rd, much wider and better maintained. You need to be equipped to drive past this location and onto beach as the sand is very deep and loose. Quiet spot, but some people do come to the beach to watch the incredible sunsets every night. We stayed 6 nights with our campervan, had bonfires on beach each night, and swimming in lake daily. AT&T service was good, Verizon was bad.

it is open. 4wd recommended. lots of soft sand. very OPEN.

Report Check-In

Not closed! Wild Cat Rd is access for residents along shore. We were told by locals that the road is inaccessible through late spring due to high water. If it looks washed out, don’t attempt it!

We got our two-wheel drive sprinter van to camp, but got stuck in the sand (local pulled us out). Keep right where it looks compact and you’ll be fine!

Report Check-In

Only posting a check in because a previous post states the area is closed. The area is open and being used by travelers and locals. There are no signs saying it's closed.

Good description of road conditions in other comment. Mosquitos were bad in the tree line but none while sitting down by the lake shore, but this is height of mosquito season.

went to stay here and wildcat road was in rough shape after the cranberry farm. 10 inches or greater water on road with no rain for 2 weeks. sandy soil. ATV users related that site was full with ATV users camping while I was turning around

Report Check-In

As described. Small fire pit, plenty of spaces to camp. Short walk to the beach. The wind is howling tonight and temps are forecasted to drop onto the 30's, as expected for early October. Stayed here 3 nights.

This is still a very popular spot for trail riders, and rock pickers. Saturday was by far the busiest day. Everyone was nice, no issues, and was quiet, except for the waves, after sunset.

I have stayed here many times and have never had a problem! great spots to set up camp and an amazing beach!

Report Check-In

There were several campsite options available when I got there. Many already had firepits built in. A few were available before the road turned sandy. I didn't drive down further but I saw more sites available but you would have to drive through sand to get to them.

The sites I stayed at were about 200 feet from Lake Superior. Was able to watch the sunset with only one other couple on the entire beach.

Report Check-In

If you are looking for a quiet place, this is not it. People come through at all hours of the night to search for rocks with very loud ATVs. The sand is also super deep, do not take an RV down here - you will get stuck.

We stayed for two days because we were tired but left after two days to look for somewhere quieter and less busy. This is a busy spot. Fine for a van lifer looking to sleep, though.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot. We came with friends in a Honda and rpod trailer and they made it in just fine. Lots of day trippers walking the beach but quiet at night. Except - there are folks who come in after dark looking for yooperlites. So expect some coming and going.
