Something not right?

Description

Fernando is The ONLY mechanic to go to in Cusco. Don't waste your time anywhere else.

He has a green metallic door with no obvious signage and a small plate that says family Alvarez. See below for his WhatsApp number.

If he sends you to get parts in town (Lubricenters Líder), the number 16 bus gets you there and back.

Fernando is such a nice guy and a good mechanic. He works very professionally and fast and we are so happy that we found him. He will help you with everything.
I correct some days later: A few screws in the suspension were loose, so it seems like they forgot to check the new parts..

Really nice guy. Cant agree with the other posts however. Basic tools. cant pressure check a fuel pump? Sent me to another mechanic across town that had no address and was impossible to find. If you need an oil change or something basic, might be a good option. Suspension parts, maybe. He hand twisted my distributor however and sent me away with a big power loss.

Wow! Fernando is amazing! We got an oil change, he also changed our gasoline filter, replaced our pit/idle arm, cleaned our air filters, and still did a few other things, all for 100 soles. We had the replacements, so that wasn’t included in the 100. He’s really nice and works very fast. You can also spend the night there, not very flat though. Super recommended!!

Wow. My jaw dropped when he told us the price. He charged so little that we paid a bit extra.

Really cool guy. We showed up Thursday afternoon and he had us return Friday. He cleaned and fixed things we hadn’t mentioned... like greasing up our bonnet leaver and washing our mirrors.

He took us to his electrician 200m down the road, for the things he couldn’t do himself.

While we waited, we were working on the framing inside our car. He loaned us his drill and saw.

He understood my Spanglish well and was very patient and good at communicating.

He sent us to Lubricentros Líder J&A in town to pick up parts. You can find it on google maps. We took the number 16 bus because they were yelling “centro.” It took us almost to the door. The bus service was called rápido something and cost 0.80 soles per person.

Well, iOverlander was right again. Our Nissan van had an issue with both front suspensions. The necessary spare parts do not exist in Peru according to everyone else. Fernando got his hands on them anyways - his friend in Lima found two brand new matching suspensions somewhere and sent them over to Cusco. Fernando worked half of Saturday and all Sunday to get us on the road again quickly. Then he charged us only 120 soles for his work... (obviously we gave more) When the parts were in shipping he didn't stop cleaning our engine and fixing minor things. What an awesome person. He has lots of overlanders at his workshop though he does not speak any English. Highly recommended for ANY kind of car issues, Fernando is the friendliest mech we have met so far!

Report Check-In

Fernando was brilliant, spent three hours tuning our car inc. two test drives and only charged us £6, so we paid a bit more anyway. Then took us to a friends garage for panel bashing and translated the work we needed doing. You can trust him to be honest and frank with you, he just wants to fix things!

Cannot recommend Fernando enough!!! He is amazing. You can go in and ask what needs to be done? And you can be confidant that he will be honest and fair. He is amazing. +51 974 276 556

What a great Mecano and taller !!!
The best one that we met in South America.
All the staff is very friendly, all his brothers are very kind and helpful.
We can sleep in the car and use toilets and showers, and share a beer or an almuerzo with Fernando.
We were here to fix some différents problems : fix alternator, change brakes, direction revision and cleaning, change a part of the escape complex, and some others things.
You can also help him and you will learn many many things.
For the work of Fernando, we paid only 200 soles, for around 3 days of work in our car ! But you have to add the price of spare parts.
Definitely the spot where you have to go if you have a problem if your car !!

Report Check-In

Fernando really is the best and in general an awesome person.
I stayed here for 2 nights while we worked on the car together, I could use any tools I needed and was able to fix a lot of things myself.
His shop might not look like too much but he’ll get the job done and will use other professionals for things he can’t do himself.
Can not recommend this guy more.

Went here to repair the gear shifter on top of gear box of our VW T4 camper. Spare parts not available so Friendly Fernando n his brother constructed an alternative joint. It was a 2 days job so we stayed one night in his garage. Highly recommended

I seriously can't say enough good things about Fernando. He replaced our steering pump, control arm bushings, shocks, repacked our wheel bearings, changed oil, fixed an electrical problem with the brake lights, lubricated our suspension and drive shaft, and numerous other little things. Total cost for labor: 500 soles. Fastest and most honest mechanic we have found since leaving the US.

Best mecanico of our trip up to now. 150 soles to check all our cremaillera de direction and change the two retenes (2 days job).
We could sleep in our van -there is toilets at his garage- and go visit the city while they was working (take the colectivo « Rapido », 0.7S pp, 30min.
He even went with us to buy the necessary part!
All the family is so genuine and nice, and know their jobs !
Perfect.

Excellent experience. Fernando only speaks Spanish but is very clear and used to dealing with overlanders. I highly recommend going here if you have any mechanic issues or simply need an oil change. He replaced our Dodge Van engine and transmission mounts alongside a few other things for only 460 sole. Great guy and service

Report Check-In

Fernando is a great guy. I slept in my truck at his place ( not much room). We worked all day trying to tune my carborator. He also helped me with some other random things

Report Check-In

Fernando is a great guy. He showed great talent to improvise on our broken cardan bearing when spare parts were not available. He knows a lot of trustworthy other mechanics who can fix, align, paint, change everything you might need. He was very fair on the price as well. Highly recommend!

Report Check-In

Fernando was super helpful and easy to understand. He spotted my camber issue quickly and took me to a different alignment/suspension place over the road. Definitely recommend.
Its a large green metal door set into big building with no obvious sign. You may need to knock or wander in if it looks closed.

Really excellent and honest mechanic. Like everyone else we had weird noises coming from the underside of our 4Runner. The mechanic was awesome - he fixed the loose tank cover, checked our shocks, breaks and other bits and pieces. He then came with us to 2 other Toyota parts specialists to get some parts that we needed. This all cost 50 soles.

Report Check-In

I had a very nasty noise coming from my front suspension and 3 other mechanics could not figure it out. Came to this mechanic and Arturo fixed it within 2 hours for only 50 soles! Very nice people. Can highly recommend the place.

Report Check-In

Came here to sort out a repeating problem in our steering. They took a look straight away and (hopefully) sorted it out within the afternoon. Reasonably priced and honest. Not much room and the driveway is a little steep and narrow, so not ideal for big rigs. Such a nice family, Fernando even took us to his favourite lunch spot. Recommended, despite the fact the maestro backed our van into the garage door !!

Report Check-In

Fantastic mechanic. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and creative. He fixed a problem with our u-joints. We also had an issue with our transmission fluid box and he took us to a welder and lubricantes shop himself because those were the shops he trusted, and stayed to check if all was done properly. Also his price is very fair. Highly recommended!

Look for the green gate, there is a small sign above it with Alvarez.

Report Check-In

Reputable mechanic in Cuzco. We need our U-Joints replaced (cruzetas) and they did a quick value job. They are a third generation shop and seem to be great guys. Helpful and genuine. Recommend them.
