Something not right?

Description

There are several rows of parking in the middle of town, next to public showers and restrooms, that one is allowed to park 72 hours maximum. The showers are free and hot but they do ask for a donation so go in with a few bucks in your pocket to put into the slot. Three nights is about right to see this island!

Be aware, “wild camping” or “boondocking” is NOT tolerated anywhere in the San Juan Islands which is why the community has provided this place with services. Please respect the locals wishes and stay here or one of the two campgrounds on the island (Odlin County Park and Spencer Spit State Park).

Latest Check-Ins

This is a large paved parking lot with portable toilets set up for overnight visitors to lor night visitors to Lopez island. It is in the very small commercial center of center of Lopez island. I checked it out but opted to stay at Spencer spit state park nearby because, believed it would be too difficult to level my campervan in the parking lot. But the descriptions by others who stayed here are accurate and this would be a good overnight option for many.

This post is the culmination of 3 visits over 4 years. Hopefully it’ll benefit iO.

There are several rows of parking in the middle of town (find the slightly sloping street at the Lopez Thrift Store) where it’s posted: 72 hour parking (3 nights). Next to the tower there is a building (open 24 hrs) with clean toilets, hot showers, and trash/recycle receptacles, it is cleaned daily. (Personally I think this is exceedingly generous hospitality!)

With this in mind, please be aware, boondocking is NOT tolerated here (or anywhere in the San Juan’s). if you do you WILL get knocked on (by the Sheriff and by locals!) so stay here (this location is very quiet and dark at night, by the way) or at a campground on the island (Odlin or Spencer Spit). The locals are VERY sensitive to the influx of travelers to their small island, especially in the summer months, so please use the hospitality available to respect their wishes. Thanks!
