Description

Stayed one night heading to South Rim of Grand Canyon (1.5 hours away). Abundant dispersed camping sites along Dogtown Road among the trees and stars that will accommodate all types of vehicles (wouldn’t recommend big rigs). Well maintained gravel roads. I arrived later in the evening (dark) on August 4th. Temperature on Interstate 40 heading into town of Williams was 96 degrees. When I settled on one of many pullouts (lots of pines which are easily maneuvered around, rock fire ring, downed wood for fires) temperature had dropped >30 degrees. So elevation it has and it is a beautiful escape from the summer heat. Stars galore and I wish I had gotten here earlier to enjoy. Very quiet give the distant/faint sound of trains running through Williams. This site is approximately .8 miles from Dogtown Lake (perhaps it is the reservoir, I am unsure at this time). Pretty spectacular place at no cost. Will be adding this to favorites when on Interstate 40 during the summer (anytime of year actually).

Latest Check-Ins

The road is wide and maintained. It does have some washboard areas, but east for all size rigs and any vehicle, at least to this spot.
I would advise finding a trail to take you off the main road by 100-200 yards, as OHV’s race by at high speeds all day and night, and dust flies everywhere.
Beautiful area.

came in on a Thursday night after driving through the heat in Mojave, this was such a relief! super quiet. no noisy neighbors or people driving through late at night. no services but Verizon service is good. I bet this gets very crowded in the summer and on weekends since it's so close to the Grand canyon

Beautiful, quiet most of the time. Glass in dismantled fire pits. I cleaned out two of them.

Lots of camping along dogtown road. Beautiful sites and nicely spaced

Nice and cool here in June. But a little too much altitude for me. AT&T data is good.

did the dog lake trail, easy and quiet. as camping was closed we asked about wildcamping and were told we could use the sites 1 mile outside the lake. so many great places to choose from. made a fire and had a romantic night under the stars

Report Check-In

We arrived in the dark on a Labor Day weekend. E could see many many people here. Nevertheless we pulled off of Dogtown road into the trees and found a spot without problem. There were people nearby but everything was very quiet. The temperatures were lovely (65 F, no humidity) and we slept soundly - except when some people got stuck in the mud further up the road and spent some time extricating themselves - the roads here can be very muddy after rain, so you do need to keep your eyes open to avoid it!

Great place. Lots of campsite and lots of people but very quiet. No wind. Att signal. A bit muddy careful if rain.
