Tourist office and Cosmic Ray Observatory, Pierre Auger | Tourist Attraction

Malargue Tourist Office. They are very helpful and can tell you about things to see and help you with reservations. Because in the provinces of Mendoza visits to national parks must be booked online and paid in advance by internet or at an easy pago. It is generally not very expensive but you need to have a network to access the site and there are only in the cities. Right next to the tourist office there is a great little free museum, the city cinema and the cosmic ray observatory. We spent several nights in front of the tourist office to take advantage of the good wifi. A bit of traffic at night.

Office du tourisme de Malargue. Ils sont très serviables et peuvent vous renseigner sur les choses à voir et vous aider pour les réservations. Car dans la provinces de Mendoza les visites dans les parc nationaux doivent être réservées en ligne et payez à l’avance par internet ou dans un pago facile. Ce n’est généralement pas très cher mais il faut avoir du réseau pour accéder au site et il n’y en a que dans les villes. Juste à côté de l’office du tourisme il y a un super petit musée gratuit, le cinéma de la ville et l’observatoire de rayons cosmique. Nous avons passé plusieurs nuits en face de l’office du tourisme pour profiter du bon wifi. Un peu de circulation la nuit.

very nice and helpful staff at the tourist office, but you CAN NOT Buy tickets for the Witches Cave Cueva de las Brujas here. You have to buy the tickets online at turnero.anp.mendoza.gov.ar - the staff will help you do it. The payment is also online (Mercadopago or pagofacil) but we could not register online because we have no national ID. You can pay in town at a shop which offers pago facil service (open 9 am - 1 pm and 5 - 9 pm).

We spent 1 night because it's very noisy. There is free wifi.

Here you make your reservation for the “gruta las brujas” and buy your entry ticket (400pp- 6.60 US$) (the additional 300pp-5 US$ for the guided tour is paid at the caves). Better to reserve at least a day ahead in high season. Definitely recommended.

We did not go to the NP Payuna, but here they told us it’s not allowed to go by yourself and that you can book it through 2 agencies nearby; 3600p(60 US$) for 2 person (or for as many persons who can enter in the car?) if you have your own 4WD high clearance car (a guide come with you in your car); 3600p for the guide and 3600p for a 4WD car if you don’t have your own.
Whole day excursion including food.

we did not pay anything. had a nice guy explaining a lot in English. we did not get bored. actually very interesting.

Opening hours for the Pierre Auger Observatory: Mo-Fr 9-12:30, 15-18:30
Sa, Su, holidays: 10-12:30, 16-18:30
Guided tours: 11 and 17 every day

Very helpful tourist office and just over the road is the Observatory. Both extremely enlightening. Mid January is the Goat festival, one year they cooked 1011 goats for a world record.
