Description

Parking area for cascade hike, super quiet, green and tree shaded. It's at the end of the road so no passing traffic. Too far from town for music boxes on wheels, safe and free. Gets busy at the weekend. road for the last 3km rough, bumpy, steep and narrow.

Came in on motorcycle. There is a gentleman at the rope gate on weekends. Motorcycle parking is 25 pesos, I gave him 50. Very nice guy, him and his family sell refreshments in the parking lot until about 5-6 pm.

There is not much level ground here as it's mostly sloped but I found a spot suitable for my tent. Had the place to myself after about 6pm. But the parking lot is right next to a cow pasture so expect curious visitors all night long. Didn't get much sleep but what a gorgeous, quiet night and an amazing night sky.

And of course, you are right at the trailhead to the tallest waterfall in Jalisco!

This camping spot was awesome! We had very quiet, safe, and peaceful night, and it was great to wake up next to the trailhead. Much better than trying to sleep in the streets near town. The road in is very doable if you take your time. Our Ford Transit had no trouble getting in or out.

I’ve spent a few nights here. Gorgeous and very quiet. Just me, the stars, the crickets, and distant sound of water.

During the day it can get busy, especially on weekends, but everyone clears out by sunset. It’s a dirt parking area, there are a couple level areas, and a couple shaded areas, but not a combination of both. It cools down nicely in the evening.

The cascadas are beautiful, even mid April near the end of the dry season there is plenty of water running. There is a lovely rock ledge to sit and rest at the lower waterfall.

The access is bumpy and dusty and the last downhill section is steep, rutted and eroded dirt and cobblestone, but any car can currently make it, just take it slow and careful.

Do your part and pick up some trash, keep this place looking nice.

No cell service.

Slept here one night. Safe and quiet. People start coming in around 9am for the hike.

Camped here for one night before doing the waterfall hike the next morning. We were the only ones for the night except for some cows. Very quiet, some flat spots but not too many. It’s a pretty steep road to get down to the parking area.

Largely as described, though for me the worst that could be said for the road was that it was a bit washboardy - last 300m or so slightly rougher but no threat to any vehicle if taken slowly. Lovely peaceful night - not quite flat but there are rocks about to help level and it wasn't too bad.

The bigger of the two waterfalls is impressive, over 100m tall and still plenty of water towards the end of the dry season. Takes somewhere between 40 minutes and an hour to hike down (pretty steep to the bottom of the canyon for the final 20 minutes or so); there's a sign to caves too but if I got to the right place it's not much more than an overhang.

Hopefully it goes without saying, but please be really careful if lighting things on fire down there; I came across what looked like an old campfire that had spread through the old wood on the ground and might have been smouldering for days. Luckily, in this case, there was a bit of rubbish including plastic bottles that I could use to try and put it out!
