Description

Hands down the best camp site I have stumbled across by a long shot. Someone has invested a great deal of effort moving large rocks around making what looks to be a little Town. Hence the name Rock Town. There are two fire rings several parking spots
The third day I was there two gentleman showed up. One was clearly the land owner. He was hoping to meet who made all of this. Really nice guy. Asked how long I would be there and told me to take care. I stayed for 6 nights. No Issues At All!
Also, it is not far from the sunrise recreation trail. At least one quad a day will drive by and explore.
Granted it will have challenges as there is no level spot for a vehicle. I used rocks to drive onto like ramps and got level enough. However, if tent camping there is literally a perfect groomed level spot. Not much shade either. I parked at the entrance halfway into the wild blueberries and got decent shade. I was here during a heat wave. This place is so unique it is worth the extra effort.
Sorry for dark pictures. They don't do this place justice. Forgot to take day pics.
Please don't make me regret telling people about this spot as it is private property with public access.

This site should be the official Maine iOverlander site. Its so amazing. Enjoy, and please work on stacking more stones. And don't take the altar offerings

Report Check-In

Got here yesterday in the rain, that's all good cause its all granite bedrock. found a nice tenting area too. Had to remove a tree from the road, but for the most part the entrance isn't bad. It is amazing here and im sure we could stay for a while.

Rock Town was pretty easy to find with Google GPS. I had downloaded the map when I had service so was able to still use it to find this place at night. It's a pretty long road in that turns into a VERY bumpy rocky road. Our Subaru Crosstrek did fine but just be aware this is probably best suited for a truck to get back there. It's a little overgrown so we were unsure if we were in the right spot but kept going and eventually found it. We heard one car early at 5am that followed us out when we left but they eventually turned off down a different part of the trail. There's a few other roads/trails that branch off. It's definitely an unlevel area. We made do since it was only for one night and slept in the car but probably better suited for a tent. There are a couple spots for fires so you could bring some wood with you. We did not. We had no issues at all. Glad to not have seen any Bud Lite :)

Oct. 18th gate 1 mile before destination. Locked and signage saying closed. Probably too late in the season.

amazing and quirky spot! I would love to know the story here. there is one.

we camped undisturbed, was difficult to find flat ground even with my SUV. Amazing spot and worth the bumpy road in.

I picked up the beer cans as I left. it really is always bud light.

This place is so neat, many hidden pockets of stone suburbs too :) like the OP suggests…pleas try leave every place better than you found it. I pulled a full bag of trash out of here. Why is it people who litter always seem to drink Bud Light?
