Latest Check-Ins

Stopped here September 5th 9pm - there were no overnight parking spot signs that were up - there were some that appeared to have been taken down & stacked in a corner of the lot - and there were some post with no signs. Parking lot was 90% full there were a lot of 1 hour only parking signs around the perimeter of the lot. Decided not to stay as it appeared the overnite signs were taken down. In checking other area spots in this app it seems to be a trend in the area. Also this spot wasn’t like “wild camping” more like stealth parking

Sign for overnight parking is down. I had a day before my camping at Acadia NP started and the long history of Castine compelled me to visit.

Parking lot was 50% full in mid-morning, 100% full in early afternoon and empty except for 5-6 cars at 11p

When I saw this sign (attached) was down I opted to spend the night and depart -7a.

So for now, it’s available. I picked up trash, micro-trash and recyclables and deposited them in appropriate container.

It’s a beautiful and fascinating spot!!

The parking restrictions for this lot have changed as of August 2022. Most of the lot now allows overnight parking, with the exception of the direct waterfront spots which are one hour only. No trailer parking during peak season June 15 - Sept 15.

This old historic town is just darling and worth the diversion off highway 1. It is so quiet and small, and the locals are so friendly. If a bigger town with action is your kind of place, this is not it.

The lot is currently four hour parking from 6am until 11pm. Overnights allowed. You can see the hooks on the poles where the old signs used to hang. I verified this with a police officer that was on-site. Heads up they drive blacked out Ford SUV’s here, with no signage except a small police interpreter logo on the back. I saw another one hidden behind a church checking speeds on the way in as you approach the town.

There is also overnight street parking available off Main Street across from Trinitarian Congregational Parish (white church with a red door).
It is two hour parking 8am-4pm-M-F then open outside of these hours.

I had two bars of Verizon LTE without booster up.

This is a parking lot at the waterfront in Castine. It may have something to do with the Maine Maritime Academy (or not). This is a place where people park when they take their boats out, so it’s used by locals as well as tourists. There are a few spaces (maybe 8?) that are designated ok for overnight parking (12am-6am) on odd dates only. I have not stayed here, bc today is an even day (drat!), but I’m submitting this place bc it’s rare to see a sign saying it’s ok to park overnight. This would only be appropriate for vans or cars. There is another sign denying entry to larger vehicles. My recommendation would be to arrive late & leave early. The sign says from midnight to 6 am, so I’m betting 6 am is when locals will begin to show up. The cell service on Verizon is at most one bar. There are picnic tables & a small restaurant as well as flush toilets & a tiny book trade library. Very charming. I hope we can be good neighbors & keep it clean.
