Before driving all the way up the road there are some sites off the side of the road as it does it’s first turn. Head up the steep road (most cars with 2wd and normal clearance would do fine. The road is good). There are a couple parking spots for car campers. I did it in a 2wd sprinter van. There were other vans up there too. Continue up the road for more sites.

There are three spots after the first turn up the road where the trailhead is. Fairly secluded but does get some hiker, biker and mild car traffic. Road is in pretty good condition, some ruts after the recent rain. Went up in a Promaster with stock tires and spun out some due to the loose, rocky condition of the road but after the second spot the road is smoother. No high clearance needed but all-terrain tires would have been better. Good trails right off the road!
Report Check-InAmazing location! There is a small lot after a few turns, but keep driving to find an amazing pullout on the side of the hill and a few other spots further along. The spot I’m at isn’t perfectly level, but the views and aspen trees make up for that. Light traffic from locals on their daily hike. Decent Verizon signal and 5 mins from Telluride. Max stay 7 days.
