KSA>Kuwait

On exit KSA customs will give you a slip of paper for vehicle - you’ll need this to submit to Kuwait customs.

Kuwait entry - did VOA with Dutch passport. $10USD.
Mandatory motorcycle insurance - $45USD/ 1 week.
The guy wouldn’t budge on price - said if I don’t pay go back to Saudi. Crazy price for a week.
Customs didn’t need CDP.
Total time 1 hour.

** Onward travel to Iraq with vehicle from Kuwait border get “Green Permit” @ airport - see airport post.

Kuwait > KSA

Easy border crossing. Insurance website for KSA: manafith.najm.sa
You can buy the insurance in advance. We tried after crossing and buying a SIM-card and the payment process was broken, so we had to go back to the border where we were told that this happens often. So better try in advance or buy at the little office after customs - prices are the same.

Kuwait to SA, EU Passport, with motorcycle. Got all the Stamps of both sides in a little over half an hour, including the Saudi visa on arrival (which at €120 is cheaper than the online eVisa, and only took 10 minutes to get in the small, unmarked building on the right. 200m before the drive-through immigration booths).
Alas, when I tried to get a sim card in the small shop at the petrol station a few hundred meters after the border, I couldn't register the new sim. They didn't give me a paper visa, just stamped my passport, and wrote an internal immigration number next to the stamp. I needed to go back, find an officer upstairs to use this number to look up my visa number, which I asked him to write into my passport too. With that I could register the sim card no problem. Cost an extra hour, otherwise all easy and very friendly.

Take photos of the small slip you get from customs after finishing with the papers of yout car in both cases KSA and Kuwait. It allows them.to find quickly the car in the system on the next border.
It took 25 mins including visa on arrival to cross frim KSA to Kuwait showing them photos of the car entry slip to KSA.
When entering Kuwait from Irak you are given an A4 paper also. Keep it with you when exiting and show when again entering Kuwait, it's valid as long as your carnet and saves work.
Both things - photo of slip and A4 to show - we were told by custom officer at Kuwait border.

Kuwait -> KSA
Less than 1 hour in total.
Kuwait: park on the left and go into the blue building for CPD. They stamp it and put your data in the system, give you a small printed ticket you have to hand in to Saudi customs. Next with your car go to the booth and give them passport and visa (without getting out of the car). They kept the paper visa but didn't stamp our passports. Now go to Saudi.
First quick check inside the car by a military and then go to the real border. Stop before the passport booths and go into the building on the right (there is nothing written on it, see next iOverlander pin). They put you into the system, take fingerprints and photo. Nobody asked for the e-visa (which we had), maybe they just saw it from our passport. Then proceed to customs, they check inside the vehicle (very quickly) and put your data into a tablet. It's here that they want the Kuwait ticket. We didn't have to get off the car and we didn't receive any paper/stamp.
We wanted to buy insurance at the border but the man in the booth just told us to go. You can purchase one online but it doesn't always work. We did it in a Najm office with the help of a employee (you need a Saudi phone number). Look for Najm Manafith on the web.

Kuwait - out - customs are in the blue building left side on the customs booth line.
Also blue building for the passport just at the booth line.

Report Check-In

easy crossing, took us 1hour, no asking for carnet. Visa on arrival 3KD p.p. also easy to get, you don't need to fill in an adress. much more easy than E-Visa (tried several times but the software didn't work)

Saudi -> Kuwait with Visa on Arrival
Exit Saudi: supereasy, you don’t have to leave the car
Enter Kuwait: First checkpoint is passport. Tell them you want to have visa on arrival, then they let you trough to park on the left side. Enter the building.
1. go to the right counter and ask for the application form (ask if nobody is there).
2. fill the form. I didn’t fill in a Kuwaiti address, was no problem.
3. go to the two very left counters. Here you will be ask which job you have and then they insert you in the system and print the visa.
4. now you have to pay 3KD for the Visa. I payed it with card.
5. you get a slip for the last checkpost to leave the border
6. leave the building and continue to the next checkpoint which is customs.
There you get another slip to give the guy at the exit of the border.
For insurance you also don’t have to leave the car. There is a drive in counter for that.

Easy border crossing. On the Kuwait side we should have gotten a small ticket (the size of a receipt), but they didn’t give it to us. Maybe because we took a special customs building for our carnet. Ask for this ticket because you’ll need it on the Saudi side. It added 30 minutes of delay there.

We also have a dog, but on the Saudi side they ignored it. We had a health certificate and fresh rabies shot to be sure, but didn’t need to show it in the end. Officially you have to register your dog to enter Saudi, but this is only possible if you’re 30 years or older (and we’re not).

Right after the border you can buy insurance (€125 for 3 months). We didn’t buy it and went to the first town to find a better deal, but we didn’t. So you might as well buy it at the border directly.
Total crossing time: 2,5 hours.

From Kuwait to Saudi Arabia.
Took us almost 2h in total. Easy border crossing.
Kuwaiti side:
Go to the customs office at the left side right before the customs gate (they will sign the Carnet & give you 2 papers - don‘t loose the small paper! You will need it for Saudi!)
Pass the customs gate and drive to towards the passport gate. Go to the passport office on the left side right before the passport gate (get the exit stamp in your passport).

Saudi side:
Before the first big passport gate, go to the small building on the right side and get your visa & passport „stamped“. They will also do a picture and take finger prints.
(We applied for the e-visa a few days before the border crossing. It takes about 5 minutes and costs about 130€pP - with this multiple entry visa you can stay up to 90 days in the country)
Then proceed to the customs gate (here you have to hand out 1 of the papers that you got from the kuwaiti customs)
Then drive further to the „custom check“ (they just opened the door and took a look inside the cabin) and go to the small office on the left to do some customs paper work (Carnet de Passages is not necessary).
After that you‘re ready to go ☺️

We crossed the border from Kuwait to Saudi today. Nothing special you need to know about the Kuwait side. Straight forward. The customs at IQ/KW border didn’t give us any special document for the car. So they need the create it now again. It took about 1h on Kuwait side. With this document may 10 minutes.

Once you arrive at the Saudi side and you have an eVisa, you need to get a little paper from the building BEFORE the passport control gates. So, leave Kuwait border, come to Saudi side, a lot of bumpers on the road, after the last bumper you see the „Passport“ sign, look right, there is a small building. Around 200m before passport control. Go into the building, show your passport and eVisa, do a little photoshooting, some fingerprints and you are ready to go.
After passport control you park your car at the customs and go into the office on the left side and get the paperwork for a german car done. Took 10min.
When they want to have a look into our car, they saw our dog. Some discussions, some chat with any supervisor in WhatsApp, making copies of dogs papers and we were good to go. Health certificate from the Kuwait vet helped.
Saudi side took about 50min. Without the dog and the extra loop at the passport control may 30min.
