Paranal Observatory. Here you can on Saturday at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. take a free guided tour of the telescopes. You won't see any stars but the facilities. The tour takes about 2 hours. You must first book the visit on the Internet on the Observatory's website. However if you forget to book, there are often last minute withdrawals, so do not hesitate to go there a little before the time of the visit you may be lucky. observatoire Paranal. ici vous pouvez le samedi à 10 h ou 14 h faire une visite guidée gratuite des télescopes. vous ne verrez pas d’étoiles mais les installations. la visite dure environ 2 h. il faut au préalable réserver la visite sur internet sur le site de l’observatoire. toutefois si vous oubliez de réserver, il y a souvent des désistements de dernière minute, donc n’hésitez pas à vous rendre sur place un peu avant l’heure de la visite vous aurez peut être de la chance. la visite est sympa. https://www.eso.org/public/france/weekend-visits/weekend-visits-paranal/

Great free tour from 10.00 till 13.00! Very interesting, don't miss it. You have to book it on their website before you come and it is still only on saturdays.

Amazing, the largest optical telescope in the world...... free tours on Saturday's @ 1000 & 1400, you must book in advance on there web site, print out the disclaimer form you receive with the confirmation email & sign. You need to book at least 3 days in advance.

Very strict rules, reservations can ONLY be made online upto 24hrs before the tour. You cannot show up or call even when the website show that spaces are available for the tour. If you haven't signed up online you WILL NOT be able to take the tour. Too bad for overlanders who don't know where they will be days in advance.

Nous n’avons pas pu effectuer la visite de l’observatoire, alors que nous avions une réservation effectuée sur le site Internet officiel « Eso.org », et une confirmation de notre réservation en mail. Les gardiens à l’entrée de l’observatoire ont expliqué qu’il n’y avait plus de visites depuis le mois de mai 2019, mais que le site Internet Eso.org n’était pas à jour, et continuait de prendre des réservations. Grande déception ! Nous attendions spécialement depuis 2 semaines dans les parages le jour de la visite, en vain...

We just wanted to sign in because we were visiting “Mano de disierto”. But unfortunately you cannot just fill the form you have to register through internet. There is no internet access in whole area between Antofagasta and Taltal (not even in the reception of observatory so we couldn’t register)... then you will receive an email if it is confirmed or not. It is the same for ALMA and La Silla. Good luck!

Definitely worth a visit! Amazing to see the large telescopes up close and learn about how we study distant galaxies.

As mentioned, you need to be there a bit before the start of the visit (before 2:00 pm) so that you can join the guided tour. If you show up later you won't get in. Note that it is highly recommended to book at least 72hs in advance in order to be sure to be accepted in...

we drove up there (10.6.17) without reservation. At the gate we filled out a form and then we had to wait until 13.30 hr. We god the o.k. that we can visit the place. You can drive up to the top with your owen car, a tour guide drives ahead from the que. Truck camper are not aloud at the top, but some one gave us a lift. Everything is free !
