Description
All along Tunnel Road and throughout the Red River Geological Area you can backcountry/dispersed camp for a nominal fee. Buy a pass at any nearby gas station in Slade or Pine Ridge. It is $3. You can park for a few days in any marked lot or set up a tent just a few hundred feet into the woods. There are lots of spots along this road and some more up 715 too. Pit toilets and garbage cans at most of them. Very busy on weekends with backpackers but I stayed two nights in my van and had very quiet sleeps.

Great place to spend a few days! You can buy a pass in Slade for $5 per night or $7 for 3 nights. There were a lot of camping areas with very clean pit toilets and you can sleep in the parking areas or put up a tent in the camping area. Verizon service was good enough for video calls. Lots of good hikes nearby. My only issue was getting enough sun for my solar panels. I'd definitely go back
