Description

New tarred road northeast of Masidi up to the new bridge in Murchison Falls NP.
BUT Attention! If you drive a 4x4 with foreign number-plate and enter the National Park, even in transit, you have to pay for the vehicle 150$ per each entry and 40$/24h pp. The lodges and campsites close to the NP are outside the park. So if you stay there and and go back in the National Park for a game drive you have to pay again. Complete rip-off!

Hence we recommend the road west of Masindi along Lake Albert to the lodges - that is for free. Roads under construction in Aug21, but in a good condition.

We paid $45,-pp plus $60,- for our 5.5t camper. First we went to the top of the falls, where we paid $15,-pp to go to all the view points, which was fantastic. Then we did the cruise up the river starting at the bridge for $30,-pp. We saw a lot of animals, the captain stopped or went closer whenever there was a croc or elephant. It was great to see the falls from the river. The cruise took 3 hours. Afterwards we went on a game drive north-west of the bridge, where all the animals are. We spent the night at the public campsite close to the river, which was $5.5pp. Only long drop toilet, VERY basic. We would have extended for another day, just the rain stopped us. We loved this NP!

What a complete ripoff, if you are thinking to visiting Murchison Falls as an overlander then please read the reviews carefully.

In our experience it was the worst park we have visited in whole Africa. Not because it’s not beautiful but mainly because of the Chinese mines/oil that scare away any wildlife left in the park and is annoying to have to see everywhere.

All game is across the river near Red Chili and to get there you have to drive 2,5 hour on a new tarred road where you can drive 40km/h. This time is taken from your 24h access so you loose a lot of time worth visiting the park.

To see the falls you have to pay an additional 10$ pp and 15$ pp for the hike. We decided to skip the waterfall.

Fee for the car was 60$,
Less than the 150, but again not worth to see this park while they are mining.

Lots of roads were closed due to ‘renovations’ but when we accidentally took one it was in great state but ended up passing a guarded mine, so that seems to be the actual reason.
