rocky, sandy spots. portapotty. tons of mosquitoes. close to highway. lots of hurricane damage makes the beach small. 4x4 could drive up the beach to a nicer spot, but not me. fine if you're passing through and need something in a pinch but don't drive here on purpose. the road to the northeast with the cattle guard is private property

We were able to stop for the night in our 40’ motorhome with a bike trailer attached. The road has been changed since we were here a few years ago. Not sure yet about the mosquitoes.
Report Check-InVery quiet night. Drove a little down the beach with no road noise! NOTE: Thier is a marsh next to the Ocean. Never seen so many Mosquitoes in ma life and I have walked across the US. *Make sure your rig is well sealed/screened.
Report Check-InBoondocking the corner of Hyw 124.
level ground, old highway, 20 ft from beach. can have beach fire.
amenities: washers and dryer, shower, 2 min down the road, grocery store 20 min in other direction.
Report Check-InVery cool spot on the beach, depending on weather some path could be more difficult. Far enough from the road not to be bothered. Tons of mosquitoes even on a windy night.
Report Check-InWe were in a pinch and this worked great. Very foggy and just after dark, very easy to find, we pulled in and set up a quick boondock site.
Positives were it is right next to the water, easy access, free.
Negative is mosquitos are Swarming and Hungry so bring bug spray.
One night stay.
I went about 1/4 mile from highway, along the abandoned beach road, past an active but quiet oil pump, able to find a fairly level spot next to an old telegraph pole just above the beach.
Just twenty feet from the water, super seaside location, not bothered by highway traffic. One other vehicle 100 feet away.
Turning for smaller trailer easy around earth mound.
High Island Beach on historic highway 87 ... the Gulf of Mexico.
☆☆☆ only 3 stars due to the fact that the place really is no longer there. After many hurricanes destroyed this section of highway 87 all efforts to make repairs were abandon and the place has been left a mess of concrete and asphalt. It was ok for one night I guess but it seems to be a popular pull of for tractor trailers and dump trucks to take breaks and the parking area is very very small. Not able to pull onto the beach I found a place by the " porta potty in a shack" ( which reminded me how thankful I am to have a bathroom in my motorhome ). The cross that was put where the beach once stood was comforting to look at while I sat and waited to see how close high tide would come to my parking area... I didn't like how close it seemed to get .. the area didn't feel welcoming or safe at all and being right on the corner of the highway headlights and noise were very frequent. The plus side was it was free and there were tons of shells.. this is stop # 116 and my 13th month on the road.
This is the free part of the beach. Easy to access with a 2WD and no problems with the tides! Beautiful sunrise!
Report Check-InJust as described. I’m sure this place was much better before the hurricane. there is a disgusting amount of trash here. Mosquitos not too bad in February. Pretty quiet depending on where you park. Good if you need a place to sleep but definitely nothing great.
