A life savior large terrace with beautiful views over the valley. Right by the road but frankly I don't think people really use it. Took us between 4 to 4:30 hours to get here from Opuwo. Excellent grated gravel road from Opuwo until Etanga but from there it becomes a 4x4 track with many rocky, bumpy, washed away and eroded stretches. I would rarely be able to drive faster than 20 km/h after Etanga village. We chose this road after hearing bad stories about Van Zyl Pass condition (road to the north). A bit of firewood around. Zebras visited us during the night. No shade if you get here early. No MTC signal.

Road condition:
Most time quite good gravel or sand. Some parts with bigger stones, some short rock-climbing and a few washed out stretches around this spot and on the way to Etanga. In these half riverbed - half roads are especially after heavy rain not easy to find a good track. But usually there is a way. 4x4 definitely necessary. Our low range broke (don't drive too fast over the loose big rocks...), so we had to do it without low range. It's possible, but you need speed and traction, especially in the steep, washed out sections and the sandy riverbeds. All together good condition and not to hard on the car.
As said below, road from Etanga to Opuwo very good, but lots of sandy riverbeds. There are detours from the locals, just follow the tracks.
When RAIN, the whole road and many crossing riverbeds can be flooded. Would not recommend in that case if you are not a water crossing enthusiast.
Travel time:
Went from Orupembe to Opuwo in 7h with some stops.
Itook us approx. 4 h to get here from Orupembe. We had to use Low 4x4 a few time. Long ride.
