Description

*Moderator Note: Overnight camping/parking is NOT available at this location.
......
Roadside turnout on hwy1. lots of level space. no 'no' signs. other medium-sized rigs parked overnight, but would accommodate big rig. usual road noise from passing vehicles, occasional person honking horn as they pass. stayed one night.

Lots of good tent-only spots over the railroad tracks and amongst the trees.

Great views overlooking ocean cliffs. remains of Davenport pier sticking up out of the sand.

very near town of Davenport so cell service is good. (Very much dependent on cell carrier. Be prepared to not have service with T mobile)

Generally quiet and safe

No “no” signs in the pull off. Got here late last night and there were several other vans and rvs here. We were tent camping and set up just over the rail road tracks in the dark. This morning explored the area and found two no camping signs not far from us on the bluff, but nothing for the parking lot. Lots of traffic in the morning but we aren’t bothered by that and we really enjoyed this spot because of the ocean views and fun beach to explore. Challenging to get down to the beach but we like that kind of stuff. Swings a little lopsided and uncomfortable for anyone wondering. Only person to walk past our tent was a guy picking up trash. Much respect to him!

Pretty sure the other reviews are probably locals, NIMBY people. There are a few up and down Highway 1 who will honk at travelers and homeless late at night or early in the morning so those posts sound suspiciously like them.
Illegal all along the coast? There would be no way for officers to know anything other than their own county laws.

This spot is wonderful and I use it now and again, traveling from Big Sur to SF

So, I don't know what the actual legality of this spot is, BUT... we just stayed here along with a lot full of other campers (seriously, it was stacked from end to end with obvious camp rigs; RVs, rooftop tents, truck campers, vans, trailers, you name it), and didn't have any problems. Any signage is either non-existent or completely unreadable. Like 100% washed out and covered in stickers. Additionally, it was obvious that people were camping -- RVs with their slides out, generators running -- but no one bothered us, and no tickets were given. We arrived after dark and left by 7am, but we did really enjoy seeing the coast for sunrise! Again, I don't know the legality of parking here, so don't come at me, but we had no issues for a recent quick overnight. And it is a beautiful spot if you can get past the traffic noise.

**CLOSED** yes, very sadly Davenport pier as well as many/if not all of the pullouts on HWY 1 on this part of the coast are now being patrolled by cops. When I was camping here, a couple cops knocked on everybody’s windows to say that starting that night they were closing it down. They said someone had pulled a knife on someone else the night before. $105 ticket for those parked overnight and they indicated that no overnighters in pullouts were allowed anywhere else on the coast anymore… so so sad. Please be safe and kind out there everyone!

Unfortunately this place is not usable anymore. A few police cars came a couple of times today and told us that the place is in the county administration and we can't park here overnight anymore. Starting when? Starting today...
Some rigs were parked here permanently and I think this is the reason they started to reinforce the no camping/parking overnight rule...
And actually there is a "no camping" sign here.

amazing place to tent camp! pulled in about 10:30pm and walked across the tracks then set up a tiny tent among the trees. the view in the morning over the cliffs was absolutely breathtaking. felt safe at night, saw other cars in the lot and one other camper in the distance with her light on. no one bothered us and didn’t have any problems

Straightforward pull off. Quiet at night but begins to pick up in the morning. Was easy and saw multiple large rigs here.

Good place for a night. There's a little trail to walk the dogs with a cliff/beach view. Several other rigs parked here. Felt safe.

This spot is just a pullout on the side of the road, which is fine but there is some road noise, it does die down at some point. we had a man in a mini van show up at 630am & blast Christian music until we left at 9am - which is obnoxious. good spot if you have a dog bc there's lots of grass.

Great place to overnight... appears there are two permanent trailer residents here but they're not overly trashy. Has the ring camera out all night and there's no funny stuff going on. No issues and fairly peaceful with great views from the cliffs.

Roadside parking/camping. If you have a tent, there are excellent spots amongst the trees over the railroad tracks

Report Check-In

Right next to the road so can be noisy but quiets down at night. I slept ok with earplugs. A few other RVs and cars spend the night here. The sunset was nice (but very cold and windy). Good place in the area to sleep and move on.

Report Check-In

this is a good place for the night, lots of others here, even some trailer that look like they have been here for a while

Huge pull out. Did not want to deal with town camping, so came back out here.

Report Check-In

Big pull out. Lots of level ground. A few other vans here. A bit noisy. We could hear what sounded like a car alarm part of the tonight. A lot more noise than we expected.
It was a bit more quiet as it got later.
We never really left the vehicle. Just stopped to sleep and left around 9am
We did not had any issues.
About 2 or 3 Bars Verizon

There is a no overnight parking sign, we just went to go see the beach we did not sleep here. WHen we came back someone had smashed the car's window right beside us, it's right beside the highway lock your doors and hide your valuables.

This is the pullout next to Davenport Pier. Level area probably best for cars to smaller pull behind RVs. Good Verizon service, no T-mobile. Beautiful walking trails across the train tracks and a beach with an ocean swing! Surprisingly quiet after 10pm to about 9am.

Came here to clear my head for a tricksy life situation but finally stopped here for the night. Porta potty in decent shape. Easy access to beach. Great cafe opposite. A few other rigs, some look like they're permanent. Good tmobile and att. Got weirdly chased by a man on crutches yelling as me as I pulled out at 6am, but no trouble during the night.

Slept one night in our 36’ skoolie. Several other big rigs here. Not bothered at all. Some road noise throughout the night but overall quiet.

Report Check-In

There was a lot of others van and campers. If you feel adventurous there’s a tricky path in the cliff if you want to go walk on the beach. There’s also a “waterfall”, little caves and a long tunel below the street with a lot of graffitis.

Really large pull out on Hwy 1 . There is obviously noise from the road, but becomes quiet after 10pm

A lot of other Cars/RVs , but quiet

The toilets weren't very clean, but open

Nice cliffs and beach next to the spot

Report Check-In

big pullout on the side of the road just north of Davenport. I have full service with Verizon and the parking lot had three RVs parked and a handfull of other cars parked overnight that came in late. there are a bunch of no camping signs along the cliff but nothing you can see from the parking lot. I definitely felt like the cops would not bother me here.

Report Check-In

Nice large parking area that can fit several rigs. We stayed 2 nights with at least 5 other rigs. It's just a pull off of Highway 1 + there is a porta potty. 2-3 bars Verizon reception.
