This is a mostly level campground that's easily accessible with 2WD vans that overlooks the other two Hawk Canyon wild camping spots, that gives amazing views in all directions. And peaceful isolation while still being within hiking distance of The Slot and Hawk Canyon.
It's roughly two thirds the way to the way up the hill. Somebody took the time to mark a nice boundary around the camp spot with rocks. The site is probably big enough for a 2-3 maybe 4 Sprinter sized caravan.
I only had two 4X4 vehicles pass by during the two days I was there. It wasn't windy at all while I was here, but I could imagine it becoming windy, but maybe not.
Cell service through Google Fi (T-Mobile + US Cellular) was intermittent. I had decent LTE during the day and nothing all night. I'm sure a booster would work wonders as the camp ground nearby reported.
I highly recommend this spot if you want good vistas but don't have the 4WD probably needed to confidently go down into Hawks Canyon.
