Wonderful place to stay right at the lake. Since we visited in June there was plenty of water in it. Andrea, the owner, is such a nice guy and the staff is super friendly! The lodge a bit further down the road is amazing as well with a lovely lapa. Please note that it takes a bit longer when coming from Livingston since the road towards the Dumdumwenzi Gate is bad, as well as the Cordon road within the park (at least in June 2018). They are building a new road so this should improve.

Report Check-In

Not good.

Great stay we were the only ones in campsite. they fired up the donkey when we came and had hot showers. need to check in and pay at Konkamoya Lodge, 5 min drive away

Checked inn towards dark. Place is nicely located but also very minimal. The price very high IMHO: 25$ per person per night. Definitely not justified by the facility.

We had a very good experience of Hippo Bay Campsite. The drive along the lake to get to the campsite was lovely, with the road crowded with puku that impressively lept into the water as we drew near. There were also many hippos lounging about, as the name of the campsite would suggest, as well as water birds and elephants (nearer to the campsite). The campsite had water and power and great open-air grass-walled showers. The campsite is in front of the lake and unfenced, so elephants visited and there were hippos marching about in the night. We spent some time at the nearby Konkamaya Lodge, where we registered for the campsite, both of which are owned and run by Mr. Andrea Porro (Dr., actually: he's a biologist with loads of knowledge about the animals and plants of the area) and Caterina (who creates delicious Italian meals!), who were generous with their excellent conversation, travel advice/assistance and superb coffee. The beautiful lodge structure itself opens onto a yard that hosted, while we were there, a large group of elephants lunching on the surrounding trees; beyond the yard is a great view of the lake, complete with the requisite hippos. The staff members were all very helpful and pleasant. The nearby town of Itezhi Tezhi is handy for supplies, fuel, cash, etc. We recommend a stay at Hippo Bay!

Even if the lake is further away than usual (very dry year) there are plenty of animals.
When we arrived the campsite looked closed and there was no water at the ablution block
We asked at the nearby lodge and they sent four people that cleaned and reactivated everything for us.
For sunset a huge group of elephants passed by. 😊
Now 25 US$ pppn

The campsite has hot water, clean and simple ablutions and nice views on the lake. Lots of hippos. ATENTION the campsite belongs to the lodge Konkamoya and cost extra 20 USD pppn.

Report Check-In

Very scenic spot to camp next to the lake although the site looked under construction and no water available for taps, toilets or showers. $5 pppn. We camped here after entering the park in the south from Livingstone. We would strongly recommend not coming to the south. It is extremely expensive (20pp for np fees plus 15 for the car per day) and it will take 2 days to drive to the north which is the only place to see animals. We saw nothing in two days. Dense bush and one road north. Might be better later in the dry season. Kafue is the worst park we have been to so far.

Report Check-In

Campsite inside the Kafue National Park at the lake.
