Description

This area (Harrat Khaybar) is famous for the different volcanoes, craters and lava fields. It is absolutely great to drive through this landscape. We stayed here for overnight and took the quad bike for the rest, because the track is quite rough with a lot of sharp stones. The big white crater is Jabal Bayda. The track starts at the new tarmac road from Thamad (15 km South of Khayber) to Al Hayit in the East at approx. km 73.

Good place to start the walk up to the highest vulcano of Saudi.
When you reach the highest point the track make a left turn towards the only tree you can see. There's a flat parking spot for 2-3 trucks almost no rocks in this face. Beautiful few on the big black and white including sunset!

What an unbelievable place in front of the highest vulcano in Saudi-Arabia and besides the white vulcano. BUT: they way to the place is a hard challenge. You will lose a lot of tire profile, because of the sharp stones and because ot heavy rains during last weeks (April 24) you need at least 20 cm clearance. The way is extremely washed out but it was worth it. Friendly rangers said hello next morning and you can hike from there everywhere you like. Verry special, even the stars at night.

a nice place. we came here with a 2wd in the morning and went hiking from here to both of the white volcanos. next day on the way back we noticed on the map there should be these mysterious saudi structures and wanted to check them out and we found out that the road there is much better and it would have been possible to continue closer to the side from which people normally go up the white head volcano and also the other wider white volcano. also the other place next to the lava is much more special and interesting thanks to the lava and there is also a tree for shade. but I guess if you continue I bet this must have been the road the 2wd Mercedes T1 made it right under the wide white volcano. also I really recommend hiking up the black volcano - that one was for sure the best out of the all 3 - the deepest crater, least steep, and you walk through lava! it is only 3km one way if you start close to the volcano camp. just drive there from the road that goes towards the white volcanoes because the other road is guarded by security car. although there was nobody in the car or around when we were exiting the road...

The park is open, maybe it was the wrong entrance.

Report Check-In

The park is closed. Why or for how long we don’t know. The quad guy didn’t speak any English.
