Something not right?

Description

Beautiful setting in the plam grove along Playa Tortuga. The road to the campsite is a dirt road and it took us a bit more than an hour. Big rigs might even take longer. Yet the first bit of the road is actually in worse shape, along the Beach it gets better. The sandflies were a big nuisance. But the baby turtle release centre up the Beach is a must see. Carlos from there is doing a great job :)

Latest Check-Ins

This place is largely as described by everyone so far. Definitely beautiful and feels safe. Slightly rough but totally 2wd-able road. And the sand among the palms is firm enough that I haven't (yet) stuck my 11k lb van. One *should* go light on the steering wheel, though. I could easily imagine getting yourself dug in.

Some things of note, though: on Google maps, it's actually called Playa Jejenes. Literally named after blood sucking sandflies. So far so good right now, but it's only just about to be dusk. Time will tell.

Also, if you go to the pin location, the whole place is a minefield of tiny, needle sharp burrs. I took two steps barefoot and had to pick several out of my feet. I moved a bit farther down, and it's a bit less, but still a problem. I'm with my dog, and every time he so much as hops out the door, he tracks a handful back into the van. I've picked over a dozen out of my rug. When I walk through the sand, they pop up between my feet and my flip flops. Feels like kind of a "look but don't touch" sort of place.

Also, this is not a white sand beach. This is a brown sand beach and it gets absolutely scorching hot in the sun. The sand is crazy soft, though, once it's not broiling and you're closer to the water than the burrs.

All told, despite it's undeniable, postcard beauty, I'm probably only going to spend one night here, doubly so if the jejenes come out.

Ridiculously beautiful beach Omgawd * it is so gorg that it feels illegal to be here >>
You have it all!!! Swimmable water, white sand, palms and decent cell if you are interested

(..and in this season no sandflys at all ^^)

But…do not drive to the exact location (100meters before it you can take a left turn- next to the enormous old sign)
We were here 2 weeks- slept with open doors

*correction: 3 weeks :D

Spent 2 nights here. A stupidly beautiful spot to set up camp. The beach and palm trees seem infinite. About 30-40 minutes down a dirt road once you turn off from the asphalt.

Lots of people driving ATVs and motorcycles on the beach, so keep an eye on your dog if you have one.

The only negative of this place is the amount of sand fleas. They are NUTS. After two days we are absolutely destroyed. Red bumps all over even a week later. It still feels like they are in our van somehow. We didn’t use any bug spray or anything, but just be aware. Still worth the visit!

It was a really nice, free spot among the palmgroves. Yet, be aware of the sandflies, we got so badly beaten we had to leave after 3 days. And the absolute must is a visit to the Platanitos baby turtle centre up the Beach, Carlos from there is doing an amazing job. They even have little crocodiles there at the moment.

As reported, the 9km off road is doable with a 2wd, but you need 40 minutes for this part. nice to see the turtles around 17:00 - 17:30.

Superbe endroit propre, calme, spacieux,un vrai coin de paradis, accessible pour presque tous vehicules, long chemin de terre

Nice beach. Beautiful estuary. From the main road it is 9 km of dirt road to get there. Doable with 2WD but the road is in bad conditions. Wouldn’t do it after rain. Many locals passing by harvesting coconut. Quiet and peaceful. Be careful not to park under coconuts that could fall. We heard them falling once in a while.

Beautiful spot to sleep in between palm trees.

Lovely place between palms close to the beach. Very quiet without people coming after sunset. Access is possible with 2WD and small rigs. We loved this location!

beautiful spot! perfect setting under coconut palms at a sandy beach with a high chance of tortugas at night and some fishing and surfing. very quiet, far away from the main road and felt very safe. stayed 3 nights. best to reach when you drive almost to the end of the gravel section just before it turns into cobblestone (private rich vacation residences at the end of playa but still far away from spot) and take a left towards the beach right in front of a big white and rusty sign. whole track is hard packed gravel with a final dash through some soft patches.

Beautiful setting in the palms along Playa Tortuga. The road to the campsite is a dirt tract, with some loose sand. We opted to park 2wd sprinter close to the entry road, but it's possible to continue into the palms (driving on beach however isn't permitted). Very quiet day and night with only friendly coco farmers and local fisherman passing by. Drop into the turtle release center during your visit!!
