Chimpanzee Trekking | Tourist Attraction

We had the most amazing time with Deo. The great thing for us was that he allowed the kids (age 7 and 9) to join. We paid USD50 pp, kids a little over halve price. We spent about 3 hours walking around and had various moments where we could see the chimps very well. Highly recommended!!

We did the Chimpanzee trek with Deo and definitely recommend him. We paid $60 pp for 3 of us. As others have said he's really great and nice that it's only you in the forest with the chimps .

Here is Deo’s another number (he is using 2 lines) +256 755 392 210, also just for the calls.
For the transport with his moto Deo wanted 40k but it was easy to negotiate to 30k. He lives next to the main gate of the park so it’s really fair when he needs to pick you up from Masindi.

Went with Deo on Sept 4 2023 ... charged us $50usd per person for 2 ppl ... i tried to negotiate, but he said "that's the price" and didn't seem to want to go lower at all ... he gave us a ride from hostel to forest and back on his motorbike for additional 30K ugx ... in total 400K ugx ... saw 4 chimps over about 1.5 hours he let us stay a bit longer when we asked ... no whatsapp no text he only has satellite phone so have to call ... friendly guy and knowledgeable... said he's been tracking the chimps 14 years

All as described before. Deo rised the price again and charged us 100k UGX pp. We tried to negotiate as we knew the price other people paid who went with him just two weeks earlier. No success, but keep trying to negotiate.
Seeing the chimpanzee in the forest was worth the money anyway.

All as said in first comment but now price is 60,000 UGX pp which is still cheap and pretty much worth it! We only had to track the chimpanzees for about 15 minutes as they were very loud and we could easily find them. We saw 10 of them very well on the trees for +- 1 hour. If you want, Deo can bring you to the starting point at the previous day and you can wild camp there for a small fee. Please don't add the exact starting point location on iOverlander or people will just go there by themselves without contributing to the conservation efforts Deo and the community have been doing.

Price as stated by OP. We had to search 1,5h for the chimps but finally managed to find them. Part of the thrill! Forest is small, surrounded by sugar cane fields. Felt a bit sorry for their ever declining habitat due to human interference. Hope the money does go to helping the chimps...

Deo is a UWA ranger, who will guide you to the Budongo forest (30 min drive).
You can take Deo in the car. He is watching this group of chimpanzees for 13 years, so he knows a lot. We left the car at the edge of the forest, where a local was watching it. It was only a 10 min easy walk. We saw at least 15 chimps. They were in the trees and on the ground. We spent 1,5 hour in the forest.
We paid Ugx 40.000 pp. Highly recommended.
