Something not right?

Description

BLM and OHV area. Lots of pull offs and side roads off the main road. Very bumpy and 2WD with high clearance can make it on most side roads when dry. If muddy you’ll need 4WD. Stay on established roads and respect the area. Quiet and 2 bars of Verizon. Because it’s an OHV area it’s probably not ideal for multiple night stays but for one overnight is perfect.

Latest Check-Ins

Stayed here last night. It had just rained a bit from a thunderstorm passing through and the ground was soft, but I didn’t get stuck. Very quiet night. Some cars pass by on the main road through the area. I went to the staging area first and there was a truck and RV there and I didn’t quite feel comfortable camping within view of strangers/ that looked like they were there long term. I don’t mean to judge, but also you can never be too careful on the road. So I took the road in further and found another spot. No issues.

Camping is permitted at the staging areas. Many of the side roads are closed to motor vehicles. If the road isn’t on the map in the staging area it is not open to vehicles.

We stayed in the original location, not the staging area. It’s a nice spot with two bars of Verizon. There a couple issues however. First, many of the side roads are quite narrow so it’s tough to wind your way back very far. Second, the road noise from the gravel entry road is light during the day, but heavy at night and in the morning. It was tough for me to sleep. I prefer quite spots. If you have a small narrow vehicle and don’t mind nighttime road noise, it’s a great spot.

This place is pretty perfect. two OHV trailheads on either side of McKenzie highway (126) This review is for the north spot. Nice groves of juniper trees, a pit toilet and even a level paved parking spot with gravel road coming in, yipee! Stayed one night had the place to myself, went for a hike the next morning and about half a mile into the brush encountered some people who looked pretty permanently camped in thier RV with dogs that I steered clear of. Saw lots of other places where there were fire rings and good roads accessible by 2WD in summer. Ate lunch at the picnic table and took off. Couple of people came in during the day and did their thing. A ranger stopped by and checked the toilet. Close to Redmond and Sisters, three bars of Verizon coverage. Don't mess this place up for others please!

Stayed just off hwy 126. A bit of road noise, but the price was right.
