Travelling from The Noordoewer border post, west along Orange River. At this point there is a road closed sign. Speaking to locals we were told the recent heavy rains and flooding have washed large parts of the road and bridges completely away. We had to reroute via Keetmanshoop!

The closed road sign is still there at both ends of the road, but the gravel road has actually been repaired at all points that were washed away in February 2022.
At a few stretches there were still people working but you can pass everywhere easily, even with 2WD.
We enjoyed this route along the Oranje river!
It’s a long way around so we thought we’d check out how far we could get… the road is passable for the adventurous with a 2wd - as long as you have good clearance, and all terrain tyres with the pressure lowered. Slow going in parts but doable.
