Description

Warning: this is one of the best options for campgrounds in Tehachapi but it is not ideal. Two months ago the water was reported to be low and muddy, but it has become higher, so we stayed in hopes of kayaking in the morning, but their system is automated and the gates don’t respond to bar code scans the way they are meant to. Also, you can only leave one time after 4pm. They say the kiosk is staffed until 4:30 but that was not the case today. Camp hosts are non existent so we just started knocking on doors where it said “employees only” and got someone to open the gate. Few sites are flat, few trees for privacy. There are potholes all over the roads and the bathrooms are unclean with stainless steel seats. You can’t swim but fishing and non gas powered boating are ok. Not worth your $30. Google reviews indicate that it’s not what it used to be. Locals at the railroad museum said if it were less windy that we should camp for free at the old Kmart next to Burger King with “all the snowbirds”.

Latest Check-Ins

Pulled in here after driving from Utah.. First stop, I treated myself to dinner in town at Village Grill - super affordable, great service, and good food. Initial plan was to park in the Loves Truck Stop but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Too hot and too early in the day to just sit there. Found myself at the lake. You have to operate a not so intuitive kiosk system in order to enter the park. They list the open sites on a white board. So, you pay without really seeing what you’re in for. $35 for a dry site. Not cheap, but there’s shade, a nice breeze & a view of the lake. (Pic from site #27)

It’s as described by the two previous posts. Showers actually do work I’ve realized. But they suck. You have to push a button that I always thought was a rivet. That gives you about 4 seconds of water. Not sure if they ever get hot. There are truck stops in the area with showers. The entire bathroom is old prison grade.
If you get here after hours ( what ever that means) you pay $35 and can camp where ever you line including full hook up. We like the sites on the water on the east side. Quiet peaceful and secure. It’s gated during dark hours. Not sure what one would have to do if a medical emergency occurred.

Beautiful place to stay, really relaxing and quiet. The restrooms are not so good (not too much clean and the shower in men's bath currently doesn't work). there are many slots near the lake, under the trees.. some are quite flat, others are not so flat but for sleeping in our van that's not a real problem.. a lot of squirrels, ducks and birds running around.. there are tables and barbeque grills near each slot, and in the night stars bright over your head.. there's a nice breeze all day long.. we paid 33$/night (not so convenient for the service you have, but the place is worth it), you can have a daily pass for 5$. No swimming, but you can fishing and use your own boat (no gas only)
