Description

This is a side road off the paved road. The road goes in for a ways, and has a few pulls outs but seemed to get more sandy the further we went, and they were calling for rain, so we came back to this site, which was close to the main road. Flat, quiet, a few wandering cows. Pretty much wide open space and it was really windy so the van was a-rockin' all night! But nice and close to the park entrance for an early start.

Scary windy

I’m awake at 2 am praying my solar and tires will be ok… and that my van doesn’t roll over

amazing spot for tent or car camping. Stayed here one night with friends and had no problems. Plenty of open sites, most with stone fire circles, and very spaced out. Incredible views too!! Road has a few large washed out areas but nothing a vehicle with awd can’t handle.

Report Check-In

This place is too close to the road. Camping permitted only .5 miles from the main road. See sign when entering the road.

Do not camp at the first pullout- we learned that the hard way. We got door knocked by the park ranger at about 8:30pm- scared the hell out of us. The other couple near us also got knocked. He took our ids and reported the incident but didn’t kick us out or give us a ticket-luckily, but he did warn us other departments of law enforcement wouldn’t be so nice. He showed us the map and the first pull out is like .04 of a mile away from the highway. (Yes that close lol) and you are supposed to be half a mile away.
Anyways we would have gone further but the road was too rough for our van after the rain and snow washed it out. Other than that it was a cool little spot-we ended up leaving though in the middle of the night after our dog wouldn’t stop growling. Weird vibes. If those two things didn’t happen I would say this is a sweet spot.

No camping allowed within 1/2 mile of main road, but lots of good spots a few minutes further down the dirt road if you keep going. I made it to some good spots without 4x4, but the road looks like it gets rougher the further back you go. Sites are very exposed, no shade. Here on a Monday in August and havent seen anyone else. No bars verizon. Crazy wind

Report Check-In

We spent the night here on our way into Canyonlands. After some research, we are not sure dispersed camping is allowed in this spot because it is less than a quarter mile from the road. Everything we could find on the BLM website says at least half a mile in to be allowed. Works in a pinch but don't be surprised if you are asked to leave.

Windy, lots of free range cows but pretty flat level spot. 2 bars LTE on Verizon with a we boost.
