Description

Nice flat spot off Barksdale Road/A021, about 10 miles from Highway 26 on BLM, just south of Good Site Peak. Coordinates take you off the road to established site with ample parking and a fire ring, nestled in rolling hills. We drove in after dark, gravel road well maintained. Watch for cows on the road. 3 bars of Verizon.

long slow road in. pretty washboardy at this point, but the road got a little bit better once you got off of the road past the produce place and onto the county road. I was wondering if I was heading the right direction. I was coming from the east. somebody mentioned it says you arrived at a school, that's because this land is owned by the school district. That's pretty common. came in after dark, so it was a little bit hard to find, only because the sides of the road were built up a bit. So I first tried on the right hand side of the road and it was just a real rough road with lots of sagebrush. I didn't go down that much. turn around and went right across the Road to find a huge flat area. exactly as described. flat spot in the desert with the fire pit. loaded with shotgun shells so I picked up a bag of trash. This is a county road so the locals do use it apparently. five or six people came flying by picking up a ton of dust and it was super windy. Three bars of Verizon except for while I was out walking around my signal completely cut out, but most spots it was fine. enough to make a phone call, enough to watch YouTube. Great place to stay if you're going to Lake Valley historical site. It's about 40 minutes away but it's probably the closest camping to it that I found without actually driving towards it. nothing wrong with the spot, but it is literally just a big flat spot in the middle of the desert. I've been to better, but I've also been to worse. I probably would not come back to the spot just because it was such a long slow dirt road out here for one night. plenty of room for big rigs or multiple vehicles though.

Long Road in, had me questioning If I was coming to the right place. finally made it and it's as described. Big flat open area surrounded by mountains. Three bars of Verizon. When I first came in I went to the right side of the road and found out that was not the camp spot. lots of rocks and sagebrush and kind of a real rough road, didn't go far and turn around and came back to the left side of the road. I was coming in from the east. It was after dark so I didn't see the big open area until I got into it. pretty flat, fire pit. loaded with shotgun shells though, so I picked up a bag of trash. Being that this is a county road, I had four or five people come flying by last night and kick up quite a bit of dust, but once it got later that settled down. Great place to stay if you're going to Lake Valley historical site. It's better than staying in the gravel lots that were described by hatch. They were a bit sketchy looking when they went by. doubt that I would stay here again though just because it is so far out on dirt roads for one night stop. nothing wrong with it, just a big flat spot in the desert. nothing special.

There was someone in this spot when I got here but there’s another site on the other side of the road that’s flat and level and has a small fire pit. Beautiful stars at night. Very quiet and clean. The dirt road in is well maintained and I made it in easy with my Prius. Not the best ATT cell reception in this particular spot but enough to send/receive messages.

Very beautiful place and quiet. Fire pit. Beautiful scenic view.

Stayed here two nights and was visited by two cows right up to our open door the first night. Our only visitors, not a soul in sight. They did seemed to steer clear the second night. Beautiful sunrises and sets, no amenities, and Verizon 3bars!

Dirt road in was in great condition and we did some rockhouding. Google maps will saying you're arriving at a school, you're not. There is one on the way in depending on which way you come.
