Description

Manager welcomes overnight parking! We stayed three nights and had the place to ourselves! We were in town getting work done at Tarpley RV and the welder suggested we stay at Home Depot instead of Walmart due to a large homeless encampment setup behind Walmart, regular theft, and the parking lot being overcrowded. Home Depot offered quiet, fairly level parking with some shade along the perimeter. Again, we had the entire parking lot to ourselves and felt very safe. Also had free WiFi and four bars of Verizon.

According to the manager, they can’t say yes you can park in the parking lot, but they’re not gonna shoo you away either. Sleep well along the outside edge of the lot in the spaces by the roadway.

A clerk said it's fine to overnight in the far corner by the sheds. We ended up making a trip to Walmart and ended up staying there.

I arrived around closing time, bought a few things, and asked the cashier if it was ok if I parked overnight in a very small SUV. She said “people do it all the time, so I think it would be fine.” I don’t think she was a manager. I had no issues. The other vehicles were mostly trucks, no vans or RV’s. I think I was the only one sleeping inside. Road noise is prevalent but I can sleep thru anything.

Checked in with front staff and they called the manager on duty and she said no, they have been having problems with semis and not enough space. The customer service attendant stated another supervisor sometimes says yes. We moved on out of respect.

What more could you ask for from a Home Depot. A big flat parking lot and a quiet night. 2 other vans there.

Did two nights here no problem. Called in and they said park away from the doors near the road. I stayed under a tree near the sign by the road. Quiet for the most part no knock and they even shut off the parking lot lights at 9. Decent spot while in Durango since there isn’t many places in the winter.

We spent three nights here. I asked the manager who said it was okay and he was correct, we were not disturbed other than the snow plows driving by and some dude doing donuts in the snow at 3am. The wifi was great the whole time.

Home Depot no longer welcomes RV overnight camping. I’m guessing they’re overwhelmed by the fact Walmart closed there overnight parking so everybody went too Home Depot.

Camping anywhere in the city limits can get you a ticket. It’s a shame as friends have told me that there is no affordable overnight camping in Durango. It’s all about the money, which is why I stay out of there. Much better places to camp out in your RV is in New Mexico. The people are really friendly, not so in Durango. Maybe it’s just Durango because the rest of Colorado is pretty friendly and nice.

It doesn’t hurt though to go to the management and ask if you can stay one night only

Road noise and bright lights. A disgruntled employee turned up for a 4am shift by pulling up next to me and gunning the engine for a few minutes before finding another place to park. Haters gonna hate :-/
