You can camp within 300 feet of any of the forest roads inside the forest. There is a map on route 526 as you enter the forest. Just pick one and look for a pull off. We found this one on the first try. Open and shady under beautiful pine trees. Only a tenth mile off 526!

Super straightforward NF boondocking. Gorgeous Ponderosa forest full of birdsongs. These spots have some road noise, and lots of cows wandering around. Super easy to get to outside Dolores. There’s cell coverage if you look for it.
