This is where you cancel or obtain your Mexican TIP. If you're coming from Guatemala this is also where immigration is. Cost to import vehicle: US$59.16 + 390 pesos visa fee for person importing vehicle in addition to refundable deposit based on car's age. (We paid $200 for 85 Westy.). All fees can be paid in credit card or cash. Docs required: copy of registration, title, passport, drivers license and immigration card. if you only are crossing Mexico in 7 days do not pay tourist fee.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.

Update to my last post: we went back on Monday and there was no Aduana there as well! At the end the Banjecito employee had to do our TIP. I do not recommend this border!
We found out later from officials that this border has staff problems because nobody wants to work there. Go to a different border if you’re going north
DO NOT attempt to cross into Mexico on a Saturday here ! Everything was smooth on the Guatemalan side and everyone was super friendly. But when we arrived at the Mexican border at 11am, there was nobody from the Aduana and they told us to wait until monday. If this happens to you, don’t even attempt to convince them, just drive to the nature reserve with the lakes that’s closest to the border as this is allowed territory without a permit (the officials told us themselves) it’s lovely and safe there. You do need entry stamps in your passport though.
Report Check-InCrossed the border from Guatemala to Mexico today. Officials at Guatemala border were not sure if Mexican side is open. Other travelers said Mexican side is closed.
We tried it anyway. Mexican side was open and functioning normal.
I crossed today heading south. I got there at 8AM and I was the ONLY overlander there.
Everyone was SUPER polite and helpful. I'm sad there are not more of us on the road but ...
As others have mentioned I also ran into two roadblocks on 190 headed towards the border.
At the first one, I hung back to see what was going on the cars were all getting stopped, and I assume were being asked for donations.
Locals on motorcycles were filtering around so I tucked in with them.
At the 2nd one I was alone, but was allowed to pass on after a couple minutes - as a result of my bad Spanish (that.... is a hint)

Report Check-InSmooth process on a Sunday morning shortly before 10, very friendly staff and they even help you find the right papers to avoid double payment. We did not cancel tje TIP as we have one valid for 10 years so we've been on the road again very fast.

Report Check-In10 am on a Saturday in July. Leaving MX for GT. It’s the set of buildings to your left when driving south. Friendly folk and they seem competent and efficient. We came here on the back of the recent Banjercito system meltdown but all went relatively well. We had to wait a little longer for some reason to cancel our TIP but nothing agreguéis. First the INM for exit stamp and then the Banjercito for the TIP cancelation. 40 minutes. PS: there’s a photocopy shop across the street by the church in the orange building if you need any before GT.
Report Check-InEveryone was lovely and super helpful. Unfortunately the payment system is down so we had to go to Comalapa to pay our tax fee at a bank and then back to immigration in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc to get our passports stamped. A bit extra time but quite straightforward/easy. Would recommend arriving early over the next couple of days to ensure time to do this until the system is fixed. We were asked for printed copies of documents - passport, bank statement, vehicle registration and flights for 90 day visa.
Report Check-InLeaving Mexico for Guatemala: Straightforward process - first we went to immigration to get our exit stamps, then we headed to the Banjercito office next door to cancel our tip. We were the only vehicles at the time and we were through in 30 minutes.
Note: If after initially entering Mexico through a land boarder, you left and returned to the country by plane, make sure to print your second FMM out prior to heading to the immigration office! When entering Mexico by plane the FMM is produced digitally and you usually do not get it at airport immigration. LEAVING MEXICO: we were told to stop here ONLY if you need to cancel a TIP and/or you arrived into Mexico via plane and are driving out.
We originally drove into Mexico in Nov 22, but had to fly home for a week in May before leaving. Since our latest arrival into Mexico was via plane, we had to stop here and fill out an exit form on our forms before they would stamp our passport with an exit stamp.
I’m not sure where they would have stamped our passports though, if not here.
We got our van registered with a 10 year TIP with no deposit, so we didn’t need to cancel.
Report Check-InVery easy entry to Mexico. Issued 10 year TIP without even coming outside to see the vehicle. No questions about food or any adana inspection. FMM issued for 5 days more than we asked for.
Report Check-InJust crossed but the immigration “system is down” so they can’t process 180 days. We have 7 and have to return to get 180 days. It means redoing the whole TIP and of course loosing the admin fee because it’s “not Banjercito’s problem the system is down.” And breath and smile. On the plus side they didn’t check the camper at all. All spices and products through. Also no dog check even though they saw him.
I will edit when “system is up.”
EDIT - we now have 180 days having returned today ( next day) and “the system was working) But some backpackers in front of us got 4 days. Another girl got the wrong day number as she said the incorrect figure in Spanish. If you don’t speak Spanish write down the days and show them. Once stamped there’s no changing.
Report Check-InCrossed from Guatemala to Mexico today. Officer asked how long we wanted and we said 180 days, he only wanted to give 90. Then he told us if we had a flight out he would give more days, even though I told him I’m in my canadian truck and I’m driving back up. In the end we had to book a fake flight and he still only gave us 160 days.
Report Check-InStopped in to get our FMM and TIP after crossing from GT. We showed up around 130 and the there was a lineup out the door. We waited around an hour to get our FMM. And then about another 1.5 hours for our TIP. It seems that 1-3pm is when all of the tourist shuttles show up from GT. So just a heads up if you are going there around this time of day.
The agent asked us how long we wanted for a FMM and we said 90 days and no issues.

They're having some issues with Narcos lately. Coming from Guat, I was told the Aduana was closed due to this, and to come back tomorrow or drive to the large border crossing by Tapachula (yeah right). I drove about 25min up the road to find a military roadblock preventing anyone from passing in either direction. I decided to turn back and sleep at the hotel here to do the paperwork tomorrow. When I returned the Aduana was now open, imported the bike no issue. I returned to the roadblock and it was just opened as I got there at 5pm, with about 50 military persons in uniform and vehicles
Report Check-InEntering Mexico. Everything goes as described but a few things to consider:
- FFM entree is now 638 pesos (if you plan on staying more than 7 days)
- we only got 90 days for the visa and then the TIP. We tried everything but the immigration wouldn’t budge, and then neither the aduana. If you want more than 90 days, have an outbound flight, reservations for the last 3 months and proof of funds ready.
NB- we did manage to get 180 days at Ciudad Hidalgo a month later.
Report Check-InMexico -》Guatemala. We went to the first office and presented our passports and immigration documents. The person stamped the date of exit from Mexico and collected our immigration documents. For our vehicle we went to the office next door to cancel our TIP. He gave us a paper that shows that our deposit will be given back to us by the bank the next day. He kept our TIP paper. We didn't pay anything and it was quick.
Mexique -》 Guatemala. Nous avons été au premier bureau et avons présenté nos passeports et nos documents de l'immigration. La personne a tamponné la date de sortie du Mexique et à récupéré nos documents d'immigration. Pour notre véhicule nous sommes allé au bureau à côté pour annuler notre TIP. Il nous a donné un papier qui montre que notre caution va nous être redonnée par la banque le lendemain. Il a conservé notre papier TIP. Nous n'avons rien payé et cela a été rapide.

Look on the left.
It doesn't matter if you go to Immigration or banjercito first. They are right next to each other. You will need to park outside the banjercito so that the officer can take photos of the car/van and remove the sticker.
They return your money to your bank card that paid for the TIP with.
No queue for either office for us on Saturday morning 9.30 am.

Report Check-InThere’s a migracion office and a banjercito. You need to stop here before entering Guatemala. The migracion will receive your tourist card and then stamp your passport with an exit stamp. The banjercito will cancel your TVIP if you’re not returning within the 180 days. The worker said we could ask for TVIP in this Border for 6 months if you say you are going to “tardar” in Mexico. Also if you have a DMV motorhome you can get your TVIP for 10 years with a $200 deposit. Simple enough, friendly and you’ll be done in no time :)
Report Check-InVerrücktes Mexiko. Wir haben diese Immigration nicht gesehen, sind also als erstes bis an die Grenze zu Guatemala gefahren und wurden dort aber nicht reingelassen, weil uns die Ausreisestempel von Mexiko gefehlt haben. Also sind wir wieder zurück (ca. 4km). Wir hatten Glück, es war keine Schlange, wir waren direkt dran, der Mann war sehr nett und hat viel erklärt. Der Mexikaner unter uns musste nicht zahlen. Mein Kumpel (USA) und ich (D) mussten 550pp hinlegen für die Ausreise. Wir haben einen Stempel in unsere Pässe bekommen und der Wisch, den wir bei der ersten Einreise im ausfüllen und behalten mussten, würde einbehalten. Er meinte, wenn wir nur 7 Tage in Mexiko gewesen wären, dann hätten wir nicht zahlen müssen (wir waren 12 da). In 5-10 mins waren wir da raus.

Exiting Mexico. TIP cancellation took 10 minutes. Passport stamp took a little longer cause the guy was eating so I had to wait for him to end... I love Mexico.
You have to show the receipt you payed when you came. There’s nothing to be payed on either cancellations
easy and quick. two oddities however: you can not buy vehicle insurance here, but you can get online and there is LTE. also can only get a 3 month visa at the S border unlike the northern border where you can get 6 months.
Report Check-Innew law since the 1st of january 2018? we had to pay 533 pesos per person, even young children to quit Mexico. we tried to pass without pay but it doesn't work and we had to go back to pay.

- the one for your car to cancel the TIVP. someone from the banjercito will check that is the good vehicule and will take pictures. then he will give you back the deposit either in cash if you previously paid in cash or on your card if you paid by card.
- the other one for you. the agent will asked you to pay 500p. Remember that you paid them at the entrance in mexico and have kept the receipt. he will take the receipt.
it takes a bit of time but quite easy.

si vous arrivez du Mexique prévoyez du liquide pour échanger et obtenir 200Q, 37Q la fumigation du véhicule + 160Q pour l'importation du véhicule.
Pas de distributeur et paiements en liquide uniquement ! Un monsieur sera là à vous attendre près des postes pour vous changer vos pesos en Quetzal à perte c'est certain mais avec le sourire et ne changez que le nécessaire...

I believe this is the place I stopped on the way to Guatemala. I wanted to get my vehicle deposit refunded to my credit card, but the guy told me I had to go to a bank back in Comitan, 60 kilometers back where I just came from. He kept saying that was the only place I could go. I will find out today if that is correct.
Report Check-InIf driving into Guatemala, the office is on your left. We pulled in and handed the official our exit fee receipts along with our passports and FMM forms. He checked all in under 5 minutes and stamped our passports. Next door is the banjercito office where the official compared our car's VIN to that on our permit and removed the sticker. We followed him back to the office so he could issue our refund. No line, 10 minutes.
