Riverside spot with a fire pit and firewood. if the spot beside this one is busy then come on further up the river. beautiful! This is a bigger place on the Liard River it can fit up to four rigs. The first place was occupied so we came here. There was plenty of firewood and a pit toilet (open air) on the right side as you enter. Lots of wild strawberries.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
entrance to the site is a bit further south to the gps location you'll have to turn back north once you access the route. accessible to any rv/car. beautiful site with very recent evidence of bear activity, be careful and pack your food. view on the mountain and lake is beautiful. fire ring is already there. very acceptably leveled. hidden from the road, you'll hear the odd car/rig drive by but I expect it to die down at night. we are alone tonight on a beautiful evening, hoping to catch some northern lights.
Report Check-InA bit too warm at night compared to previous spots even with windows opened. Lots of flies. Not many mozzies. Some flies bite. Beautiful view. Went to first one.
Report Check-InThis place was stunning. We stayed at the first pull off (did not check out the other one) and think it’s the best place we have ever boondocked. We have a tall ram promaster and did hit a branch or two going to the spot from the dirt road. I don’t believe a bigger vehicle could fit down at this one but our size was perfect. Some trash though we picked it up (please clean your garbage). Definitely would stay here again!! 10/10
Report Check-InI was going to spend the night at the Hot Spring's overflow area, but I'm so glad I decided to take a look at the nearby boondocking options, this spot is a million times better! It's far enough from the road that you only hear some noise from a distance, the river is very wide and in spring it's full and running fast - I don't think any bears would go for a swim at this time of the year. There are beautiful purple fowers blooming all over the place, birds singing and I'm glad I didn't run into any wildlife at this spot. There was a herd of bison resting on the other side of the road, though. The access from the airstrip is narrow but was enough for my 2.5m wide camper. It's my favorite spot on the Alaska Highway so far.
Report Check-InGreat spot, first one is very private, no outhouse. Amazing sunset due to smoky skies. River is super high, lots of debris floating, not really accessible atm. Second spot is bigger and a bit more open. No cell service.
Report Check-Innice location off the Alaskan highway. should be able to fit any rig in here nice gravel road.. we stayed with a 35 ft fifth wheel with no problem whatsoever nobody else here this time of year
Report Check-InStayed here last night and it was awesome. Stayed at the first spot as the second was taken. First is good size, level and has an amazing view. Had a brilliant sunset to boot.
Report Check-InQuiet a spot! Beautiful sunset and not much highway noise. Lots of mosquitoes, but once managed, had a great night.
Report Check-InWhen you drive down the old air stripe, look for a path on the left. We missed the first one - so we took the second spot. Probably not for very big rigs. Made it with our 23ft Class C. Low clearance could be a problem with this length.
The view is AMAZING!
We loved it there und would have stayed longer - but the tons of moskitos are as impressive as the view 😕
One of the best campsites along Alaska Highway directly at the Liard River. Ca 300 m away from the highway and not visible from the road. Access is on a good dirtroad over an Airstrip.
Report Check-InThis place is pretty sweet! It’s a cliff over the river, but still have access to walk down to the river. This spot and the other are not as big as described, but both spots were wide open when I stayed.
The air strip drive in is pretty funny. I had no idea what to expect when I read that comment.
Report Check-InAn absolutely beautiful spot, breathtaking views of the river and mountains.
We drove on bison were grazing the air strip.
we got our 38ft fifth wheel right against the river in this location, but plenty of room for any size rig along the old air strip, you could probably park 1000 big rigs on the air strip its massive!
note the turn of for this spot is a bit further south along the road and once you go through the trees you drive up the air strip parallell with the road for a good 800m. We missed the turn off the road first time.
Report Check-InParked rig on side of road and jogged back in to assess access. Couldn’t find “spectacular river views “ I saw the runway and a truck with tent parked off to side but no river views. Didn’t feel comfortable driving down airstrip to see if it was further down as we are in a big rig. But a big rig could park. Chose to move on.
Report Check-InDidn’t stay at this campsite but the one next to it, both are great places to camp. No amenities but great wildlife viewing and lookout over the river
Report Check-InGreat place for an overnight stay. Just off highway 97, you quickly pass over an old dirt and grass airstrip to get to the camp. Great for 1 party but could fit 2. Saw multiple bears across the river and saw another one run across the airstrip
No facilities but great spot. If this spot is taken, just follow the airstrip up 2 minutes and you’ll reach an identical spot and even bigger
Report Check-InVery nice spot on the river side. Don’t be surprise you will have to drive on a air strip to get to your camping. The view is fantastic... if it’s sunny. Room for two camper.
Report Check-InIf u are in this area spent time for an overnight stay. The view on the river is amazing and u can see a beautiful sunset. Saw some Bison and Bears on the Road.
Report Check-InThe best spot here: Accessable and secluded, also for bigger Riggs. The access road from ALCAN is a landing strip for hobby\ bush- pilots. So watch out...
Report Check-InBeautiful spot. Unfortunately it was too smoky and the highway was very noisy. We didn’t see the bear but we saw a lot of buffalos on the way :-)
Report Check-Insomeone was in spot 1 already, another riverside a little further on. plenty of space otherwise on what I assume is an old airfield.
Report Check-InThis is a bigger place on the Liard river it can fit up to four Riggs. The first place was occupied so we went here. There was plenty of fire wood and people did build a pit toilet ( open air) on the right side as you enter. Lots of wild strawberries.
Report Check-InRiverside spot with a fire pit and firewood. if the one beside this is busy then come on further up the river. beautiful!
Report Check-InAmazing Place!!!! saw also a swimming Bear crossing the River, and a group of giant Bisons walkt 20 meter from here truh the Forest. One of my top 5 after 2 Years Panamericana...:-) enjoy and left clean!!
Report Check-InWow! Brilliant spot overlooking the river. Nice sunset, space for hammock. There is another pullout towards the river further down the airstrip, if this is occupied.
Report Check-Inawesome spot and we observe a swimming bear through the Liard River about 300 meters from here
Report Check-InA great spot. A bit over the Liard River with a great View.
Ein Top Platz mit unglaublicher Aussicht über den Liard River.
