A large parking lot with spaces designated for longer vehicles. Level spaces in a well lit lot. I stayed several nights with no issue. Great view of the bay with a nice linear park with grass and picnic tables. It is noisy (cars passing by, helicopters across the water in military base)
There are bathrooms but the toilet cubicles have no doors.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
many other vans stayed over night, I'm in a 8 foot tall van 17ft in length with a motorcycle on the back, i had no problems parking there for a night. no cops, no tickets this time around.
Report Check-InNo go not even to eat lunch. There’s a length or height or width restriction in the “tidelands” on all roads and parking lots. If you’re longer than 20ft, OR wider than 7ft, OR taller than 7.5 ft you’re not allowed to park anywhere.
Report Check-InKnocked on: Harbor police knocking on vans/busses/even cars that look like people were sleeping in. They came around the shoreline park around 11:30 pm saying we had to leave. we were among the first to leave, not sure how far they got. No ticket but did have to find a spot off shelter Isalnd to park. No parking 10:30 pm -6 am.
Report Check-In52.50 ticket for parking overnight. Seems like a lot of people park here but we did get a ticket in a 25 foot skoolie. Spoke with others and they ticketed the 24 hour lot as well.
Report Check-InSigns in this lot day no parking after 1030pm. Park at your own risk.
Report Check-InGreat place to stay.
Just one thing nobody seems to mention. The bathrooms have the weirdest thing I have ever seen. The toilets have no doors. So basically someone could walk in front of you while you are taking a shit. Apparently this is to avoid people from locking and camping inside the cubicles, as some other person told us.
Great spot! Felt safe as a solo female. Sooo many other vans, it was a great community spot.
Report Check-InCops came by at 3am and told us to move. No overnight parking. They told us about a 72 hour lot between holiday inn and best western that would be fine, but no parking on Shelter Island on the waterfront overnight. Not sure about the other iOverander spot, when we passed it on our way out there were like 20 vans there so idk.
Report Check-InI have stayed here multiple weeks throughout the summer of 22 but by November the harbor police began to have more staff to address people staying in there vehicles here. I loved this place in terms of scenery and overall quality but unfortunately the police are cracking down more.
