Description

Very sketchy "police" checkpoint going north (maybe south too).

Police cars have no indication of what agency they are. They immediately told me to pull for inspection. Never asked for my name, just where I'm going and where I came from.

Asked to open the hood which is the first time I've ever been asked to do so. Then they wanted us to come out of the vehicle while they inspect it, which is also the first time since I'm always there while they check.

Wouldn't identify what "police branch" they were when I asked. Instead just got the main person in charge, which showed me his id, then explained that they are an investigations unit, looking for drugs and guns.

Very sketchy! watch out, I don't think they are real cops specially since there was a military checkpoint not too far from here, so why another one right away.

Record everything! Stay safe!

Oh also at the end they didn't want to close my hood....

This really looks like a fake police. They told us to wait on the side of the road and asked us where we came from and where we were going. When we told them we had kids they let us go. They asked money to the american travelers in front of us. We didn't feel safe.

Report Check-In

Lots of men in black sitting and standing around. We rolled right thru behind a big tractor trailer rig. No identifying agency words on shirts.

Passed today with a Swedish license plate and Germany sticker on the screen. They let us pass without anything. It's more northbound, not southbound. Easy and friendly.

Report Check-In

checkpoint still here, we passed right through (before 8 am, 28 ft rv, California plates). they were busy searching a mexican plated vehicule going northbound.

Report Check-In

We passed the marker and saw nothing today.

Report Check-In

Waved us through. No issues at all. checking both directions.

Report Check-In

Drove through. Cars going northbound were being checked.

Report Check-In

This is illegal checkpoint. They are not authorized to stop anybody. Do not obey their signals and keep driving. First time towed RV in Mexico we stopped at similar checkpoint. They searched our trailer for about one hour and stole $1700USD. We clarified with police (multiple departments) - never stop at such fake checkpoints.

After showing my papers to the "officer", he asked for my license I grabbed my wallet and took out the license and handed it to him. he grabbed my wallet off my hand and took the money out acting like he is counting it and took some in his pocket and gave me the rest.

Report Check-In

We got waved right though, we travel with a small trailer.

Report Check-In

that one was a pain They searched every bit of my car for 20+ minutes. The “boss” checked my FMM and even though it was valid for another 3 weeks, he said ge would have to call immigration to see if it was still good. He also asked me about an American passport, which I told him I don’t have, since I’m Austrian. He asked me if I was planning to go to US illegally since I didn’t have an American passport. I told him that I don’t need an American passport in order go there but that I had an ESTA.
After 5 minutes of pretty loud arguing whether that was correct or not, he let me pass.
Very confusing and kind of a pain is all I can say….

Was asked to pull off to the side to check the vehicle. Asked my husband and I to come out to check our bags and front seat. My 2 kids and dog stayed in the back seat. My dog was barking at them, they asked if he bites, I said he might. Check was fairly quick.

Came through here, southbound, nothing really sketchy about this place. yes the guys are not marked but they're either FGE or aduana looking for smugglers and contraband.
trucks and large vehicles are stopped amd searched. Everyone else can go through.
there are similar checkpoints in oaxaca and chiapas.

Check point! Guys in all black that said they were with the national guard and were checking for Guns, drugs and cash. They asked some questions and asked to see our TIP. They asked us to step out and they checked the front of our truck. We have a camper attached to our truck but they didn’t go inside our camper just looked through our truck. All in all they were nice and after we answered there questions and they didn’t find anything they let us pass.

Report Check-In

Many men dressed in black. One stated that it’s very hot today (“mucho calor”). We said no. He waived us through.

Report Check-In

Southbound, got sent to secondary check where 2 guys did "good cop, bad cop" inside our van. (We were in line behind another van who was in the process of unloading sacks of potatoes etc. onto a folding table for inspection, so to us it didn't feel like gringo-targeting.)

First inspector was wearing a Fiscalia General de la Republica (Prosecutor General's Office) shirt, very courteous, dug around the cargo area, picked up things that were dropped or knocked off. Second guy loudly demanded repeatedly for us to open our wallets and show our cash, then kept repeating "maletas" (suitcases), which were right in front of him and he could have opened them or asked us to open if he wanted to bother, but he didn't.

Another FGP inspection point was further down the road south also said they were checking for weapons, drugs, money... but also suggested we make sure we have all our stuff when they are done.

Probably worth checking how much cash you have before and after, and keep a close eye to make sure nothing disappeared.

Passed driving south. Got sent to the inspection area on the right with a group of men dressed in black under a canopy shade. They asked where we were going and where we came from. Asked if we had our vehicle permit. They explained they are looking for weapons, drugs, or large amounts of cash in either dollars or pesos. When asked specifically how much cash we were carrying we said only a little and they waved us through. Pretty quick and easy stop. Did not search the camper van or have us exit.

Report Check-In

We had a similar experience to others described. Men in unmarked white trucks stopped us at a checkpoint and asked us to pull over. They were all dressed similarly and wore hats marked Sinoloa. They did not speak English and we speak little Spanish. First they wanted to see our vehicle permit, then our driver’s license (which we showed but did not hand over). They then asked how much money we had but we did not fully understand the question and we said we don’t understand. They appeared angry but told us to proceed. We travel this route back and forth annually and this is our first experience with this. It was obviously very sketch.

Report Check-In

There was nobody here. No checkpoint at all.

As previous poster stated, this is the 2nd checkpoint going south. We had a problem with these guys too. THEY ARE FAKE. JUST DRIVE BY. Asked for our papers which we showed them but they barely looked at them. Then the asked for drivers license. Showed them but wouldn’t give it to them. NEVER give your drivers license to anyone! You will probably end up paying to get it back. Then they wanted to see our money. At that point we started yelling at them and they backed off. We drove away.
