A beautiful campsite which wasn't expensive but felt very luxurious. Each pitch has a shower, toilet, sink, and table all within a raised tented structure. There is a main bar and restaurant, and they offer boat rides, etc. A lovely camp and one worth visiting.

My only gripe was there is a lot of lighting around the site at night, including some motion activated ones, but I think that's related more to cattle herding issues.

A new Lodge with 12 Chalet and 5 Campsite in Mababe on the way to Savuti fromMaun. Directly after the Bridge over the Khwai River on left in 150 m. The lodge will be ready in the middle of Juli, but we had a very great stay at the campsite right now for two nights.
We could use the great large Terrace with a amazing Pool and the wide view in the open Pan. The Campsite have hot water, power, Flashing Toilet , Braii area, Fireplace and Wood. The stuff is very friendly and helpful and the Owner Thys is a very great Guy. We had a Problem with our Tyres and he helped us perfectly.

Is a very nice campsite 🏕️ And a good sundown Tour on the Chobe River ❤️❤️❤️ Dinner 😋

Report Check-In

We spent 4 nights here. Campsites are set back from the river but still have a bit of a view, if not much. Private facilities are great and clean. Well maintained. WiFi at the lodge bar, still only 100mb free like in 2018… not much wildlife on the river front but many catfish and a few smaller crocodiles. Loads of cattle grazing around the river which seems to scare the wildlife away. Too bad. All else still of good quality.

Please note that some of the photos posted by others for this entry are not of the present Camp Chobe premises but of the neighbouring more basic camp which is not part of Camp Chobe and believed to now be closed.

Lovely location as part of an attractive lodge next to a branch of the Chobe river on the flood plain. Lions and hyena can be heard at night across the border in Chobe NP and big herds of buffalo were grazing on the river banks during our visit. Campers are able to camp next to one of four of the many tented chalets providing exclusive use of the chalet’s deck, kitchen area and bathroom with solar hot water shower and electricity sockets. However, the solar panels for these chalets are set partially under trees so the water is not that hot in the mornings especially for washing dishes or clothes. It is a 5 minute walk from the campsites to the main lodge where there is a lovely pool, bar, restaurant and boat dock for evening cruises. The wifi is available only at the lounge and bar area and painfully slow if free for a limited amount of data. P284 pppn camping.

Cool a frames on poles with deck and private ablutions and kitchen with sink (no stove). Only site 1 has a nice river view. Not very private. Too bad the toilet at site 1 is leaking poop and seems to have been doing that for a while ... smell / look is not great.

Report Check-In

As described. Price has gone up to NA$ 287 pp unless you have Gondwana card, then 40% discount. Kids 6-12 half price; 0-5 years for free. Great game viewing from sundowner trip. Wifi did not work while we stayed.

Report Check-In

Agree with previous reviews. Pricing is still the same. Site 1 is a big ants nest however. Housekeeping use ant powder in the ablution/kitchen area. There are electricity points and a hose pipe. Water is from the borehole but mixed with river water during the flood, drinkable but brackish.

Report Check-In

Wonderful extended lodge with tented camps and excellent campsites with an open chalet including kitchen per site (247 N$ pp). Perfect views unto Chobe river. Extremely friendly staff. 2,5 hour sundowner boat trips offer unbeatable viewing of animals (elefants, crocodiles, hippos, giraffes etc) on the opposite river banks of Chobe National park. We came for one night, but stayed 5 nights and did 3 boat trips. Spectacular!

Report Check-In

Price went up 215N$ ppn , private ablutions, it was rainy so the road was muddy only for 4x4. Wi-Fi didn't work.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place to stay. We camped and were the only ones at the campsite on the river. The pool and bar are a great place to spend a hot afternoon with a cold drink and binoculars! And they do have free WiFi albeit not so fast.

Report Check-In

We ended up staying 5 nights here. campsite 1A big and the closest from the reception. Free wifi (they change the password every now and then, just check at the reception). Nice swimming pool, friendly staff, 10$pp, great ablutions and clean. We did a tour on the river, small boat with a company from the street (26$) worth doing it!

Report Check-In

It’s indeed a lovely place like written below. New price is N$195 pp

Report Check-In

Price did raise again.
Now it’s 195 $ pppn.

Cannot see any improvements that can be responsible for becoming more expensive.

I like the „kitchen“ setup at the camps and the wideness of the camps, lots of space and enough shade.

Still no electricity at the Campsite, even the lodge area is so close.

Didn’t see any decent game. Some impalas. As the staff told me, they didn’t had elephants for months walking by.

Therefore you hear the bells from the cattle that are grasing all over and one can watch them walking around.

The buffalos may come at night. But the local community is hunting them to protect their farmland. So much to say about conservancy 😡

You can also watch the local community to fish with nets which is also against the rules.

Gondwana still has to do some housework !

Nice birds around.

As already mentioned, make sure to camp on 1 to 4 next to the river. 5 and 6 are located at the tented camp area, without river access and view.

To access the camp it’s about 2.9 KM driving on a bumpy sand road from the mainroad to the reception. It was super dry when I was here, so no hassle to get in.

Good MTC Signal, 3G.
Wifi - 100 MB for free. If you need more data, one can buy - quite expensive. 500 mb for 100 $.

Paying with card is possible. Firewood and ice are available. As well as the typical Gondwana Souvenir Shop and a Swimmingpool. Bar and Restaurant Area as well as sunset deck. Dinner Menu (soup, salad, main & dessert) 360 $ PP, excluding drinks.

Different activities can be booked.

Beautiful situated overlooking the Choberiver! We stayed at 3(b) and 1.
3 is for bigger groups. Facilities are okay but need an update. Since Gondwana took over last year price went up to 175N$ppN. Swimmingpool at Lodge is nice.

Call ahead to secure one of the four riverfront spots! Chobe Camp is now part of Gondwana, which operates many excellent lodges and campsites in Namibia. Unfortunately, we booked two nights at Chobe Camp on Gondwana's website where they claim to have SIX private sites with great views. When we arrived, we were given site 6, which is normally used for big overlanding buses. It's nowhere near the river, near the entrance road, the view is of the back of two tented chalets, you can hear the lodge generator, and the ablution is a large ablution block, which site 5 used as well. Sites 1-4 have private ablutions. Site 5 is near site 6, next to the tented chalets, with a view of a field. Both 5&6 are fine for a night, but certainly nothing special. We were moved to site two by the river for our second night. Sites 1-4 are amazing, just as described by others and are great value at N$150 pppn, which is the rate through Nov 2017.

We visited end June 2017. What a lovely spot. Place is already excellent but they are upgrading lodge facilities. Wide open panoramic vista views across river to Botswana, lots of game on Botswana side (binoculars), we saw dozens of zebra, hundreds Impala, some giraffe and very large herd of 49 elephants. Campsite is very private set about km from main lodge and bar. Good internet. Campsite is huge, easily space for 8 or 10 but they keep it set just for 4 which makes it feel superb. Lots of birds and waterbuck at campsite and evidence of elephants on this side too. We only planned one night but place so nice we stayed a second. Well worth the 150 rand per person.

Report Check-In

Tried to reach it but the access road was flooded badly. No signs and no indictations that some tried to cross for some time so I didn't took the risk and drove on to Katima (I came from Kasane).

Report Check-In

Excellent value for money. Campsites often flooded in rainy season especially when Zambezirivier pushes its water upstream into the Choberivier. Under new ownership (Gondwana) expect changes. Friendly and helpful staff.

Report Check-In

130 pppn to stay here, may be best to book in advance as very busy with overland busses when we were here! Eco Lodge, ok but open camp site and good facilities. Charge phones etc at the bar. Wifi is 20. Amazing views of chobe NP over the river!
