If campground is full or closed( our case d/t Coronavirus). Go to the south entrance side and head forward Crownpoint Road # 57. Follow the dirt road right beside the wire fence to the end. (Inside the fence is Navajo Leased Farm Land.)Stay outside the fenced land on the park side. The spot is flat and you can turn around. Only attempt if the weather is dry and 4 wheel drive. No big or heavy rigs should try this. It is a place to stay for the night in a pinch.

easily reachable in my outback, beautiful spot to stay as campsite was full
Report Check-InWe stayed in the park at a pullout after the information area and before the camping area, no problem. Fajada Butte View Point.
Report Check-InGood place when the campground is full. It is not too far from the park and has nice views. We couldn't make the last few 100 yards to the turn around because of tall grass and mud. We didn't want to disturb the fragile soil so we backed out to the road in the morning. This spot is for fairly light weight 4 wheel drive vehicles. The mud can be sneaky even if it hasn't rained recently.
