Cow pond with flies, camping near Devil’s Tower. A great dirt road pull over spot (off the main paved road), right by a small lake. Perfect for overnight camping and a decent view of the national monument. No road sound at all.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
We went this afternoon and there’s now a no overnight camping sign right by the water.
Report Check-InA little muddy from the rain last night, but a perfect spot next to a lake. View of Devil’s Tower. Dark peaceful and great star view. Good wifi and phone reception. Expect cows for breakfast!
Report Check-InThat's a cow pond, not a lake. I got here around 1 pm. A few hours later a Ranger stopped by to see how I was doing and "reminded" me that there is NO overnighting on this spot. He said he realizes there are no signs up but there will be signs soon reiterating no overnight parking.
Report Check-InGreat spot just off road! We pulled in at 8pm and there were a few other vans and RVs there but lots of space for everyone. Tougher to navigate in the dark but road was OK, a bit of mud but hadn’t rained so was fine. We were in a mini van. Left around 7am to go to the tower. No amenities but you can go to bathroom at the tower places
Report Check-InThis location is exactly how others have described. We stayed one night and had 5-7 neighbors (small rvs & vans).
Report Check-Inmap coordinates are spot on. only 4.7 miles by twisty windy road to Devils Tower visitor center. Devils Tower is very visible from the campsite.
If it is raining or has just rained, the loop off county road 196 may just get you stuck. when I visited, the YouTubers Family Everywhere had experienced "difficulties" even with their massive Mercedes overlanding rig; their travel companion rig, an Izuzu overlanding vehicle, got them unstuck. Regardless the weather, I recommend entering the camp area using the second left turn from the county road as it does not climb up, then decend down, rutted track tracks over a small hill.
The camp may be visited by cattle and wild animals.
Report Check-Innice spot. quite. lots of cows. distant views of Devils Tower. the KOA, located at the base of the monument plays Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, nightly at 8pm. free for everyone. decent cell coverage here. Intermit LTE/5G TMobile- 1 bar. but streamed fine most the time. sometimes sending texts was difficult. one bar LTE Verizon, but i wouldn’t even try to send a text on 1Bar Verizon. phone calls only. road coming in is fine for any rig. enough room for anyone to turn around here at the lake. ground is a lil uneven. no amenities.
Report Check-InBeautiful spot. Lots of large ants, but they didn’t bite and having boots on wolves the problem. We were joined by another camper. Enough space for 2-3, no more than that!
Report Check-InBeautiful spot. Large red ants can be a nuisance but it is still a nice spot. GPS coordinates are not accurate, but map view gets you there perfectly!
