The road goes down through the canyon and across the Gunnison River. The road off the highway is a good gravel road, and I chose to pull off at a marked campsite near the highway—it was relatively flat and I had 2-3 bars VZN LTE. I also had some concerns about flash flooding in the canyon as it’s monsoon season. For me it was a perfect overnight—convenient, quiet, breezy. Some traffic on Escalante Canyon Road around 7am, presumably people going down to the boat launch.

There are a ton of open spaces off of 650 road. We got here at around 11 pm. We could see a few other vans parked as well.
Report Check-InStayed here for 2 nights in a class a 30’. Great place to stay. Great for dogs. Lots of camp spots. Roads in are good and rocky. Very quiet. Great views. Not a lot of trash, some glass.
Report Check-InNice place and easy to get too. No shade so if it’s hot be ready ! Close to Everything around and free . Not crowded either. Easy for vans or even big rigs.
Report Check-InTrying to find the various BLM dispersed campgrounds notes on this map, I turned off HWY 550 onto Escalante Canyon Road. The road goes down through the canyon and across the Gunnison River, and I think a few of the other marked campsites are down there. Some are also found down roads that cross the BLM plateau (and some of those roads were marked closed when I was here). The road off the highway is a good gravel road, and I chose to pull off at a marked campsite near the highway—it was relatively flat and I had 2-3 bars VZN LTE.
