Description

Revenue Flats is a large area of public land west of Norris, MT. There are no established campsites, but dispersed camping is allowed anywhere--just don't drive off the trails. Access is allowed year round, but drifting snow several feet deep will hinder most during the winter months. Several large rock formations and a few abandoned quartz mines, along with numerous tailing piles, could be of interest to a rockhound. Beware of sudden squalls blowing in though. Some of the higher areas can provide 1-2 bars of Verizon 4G. It gets hot here during the summer so bring plenty of water.

Gorgeous views if you have a AWD/4WD and high clearance. I picked a spot up the road to the right as you pass into federal land. Open area with nearly 360 degree views and a fire circle.

Stopped here in the late afternoon on a Saturday night in September. The place wasn’t busy but some locals are camping here and there. Some roads are rough and off camber so we did not attempt. But if you follow the many spurs you will find a camp. A group was shooting guns next to us, it’s okay, it’s public land. But be aware you might be hearing people shooting.

Long, washboard access road. We stayed here one night in our van but almost gave up on the road. It is a pretty area with interesting rock formations and several different spots to camp. The night we were here there was a lot of shooting until nightfall in the not too distance, and a good deal of comings and goings, but no one bothered us. It was Labor Day weekend so maybe extra busy.
