Nice and quiet place in the wood, close to HWY 20. 10 day camping limit.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Convenient. Close yo highway but minimal noise since sites are far enough away. Bootjack rd is excellent and flat but the dirt roads off it to the campsites are REALLY bumpy (though a number of spots are within a couple hundred feet of bootjack).
Good peaceful sleep.
Report Check-Instayed for 4 days to explore Yellowstone. only 20 mins to West Yellowstone entrance. very snowy in mid-May and muddy when it warms up. plenty of potholes to avoid, but we made it fine to the edge of the forest with 2wd pulling an 18ft vintage trailer. there is a spring to fill up water 10 mins up the road called Howard Spring, which runs in the warmer months. forest was lovely to explore with the dogs and a great horned owl was roosting in a tree above us.
Report Check-InEasy access off main highway yet quiet and private—fine for one night. Still some mud and snow in the tree-shaded areas this time of year (early May). Tried to access the creek at the end of Bootjack Drive, but there was a gate across the road with private property/no trespassing signs.
Report Check-InNice easy parking for all size machines even larger motor home can fit
Report Check-InHave to agree with previous posts, great boon docking area close to West Yellowstone
Report Check-InPartially visible from main road, seemingly endless number of campable spots, some views of surrounding hills/ plenty of options for shade. Slight road noise but tolerable for one night. Great one night free spot
Report Check-InGreat place to boondock 18 miles from the west entrance of Yellowstone. This is Idaho state lands and not BLM, but the only real difference is that there is a 10 day limit rather than 14. We took one of the first sites in, which we had no problem getting to in a sedan. There is a lot of road noise from US 20.
Report Check-In15+ massive spots, decently secluded from each other. Never saw any bears but could hear the Yellowstone Wolves at night, they were clearly far away but cool to hear them howl.
Most people in RVs but we tent camped. Seems be a popular spot for people who have off roading vehicles and toys.
A little far to the Yellowstone West Entrance if you’re camping there and just visiting Yellowstone NP.
Report Check-InGreat BLM spots, spacious and dispersed. Far enough away to be mostly quiet from the Interstate, close enough for easy access. One of my favorite spots to date to camp. Road is rutted but I’ve seen worse. All wheel or 4 wheel should be fine.
Report Check-InA little muddy coming in, but expected this time of year, had to put in 4x4 in one spot. Big sites
Report Check-InFree campsites through Idaho Endowment Land. 10 day camping limit. We stayed here for 1 night. There are multiple sites just off the main road each has a fire ring. There were 5 other campsites filled when we arrived. (Follow the dirt road if you see that the first sites are full). It’s a dirt road and rutted in places - wouldn’t recommend with a sedan. From the road when you approach from the north it looks as though there won’t be any privacy, but the short drive off the main road brings you to some tree cover. See attached picture for posted regulations for sites.
Report Check-InMultiple sites with fire rings. Road is pretty rutted. Mule deer right in the site!
Report Check-InGreat dispersed camping. Road might be difficult if muddy. Grazing cows kept it interesting.
Report Check-InNice BLM Land for dispersed camping with some fire rings. Cold during night, open land with woods. Grizzly sighting has been reported lately.
Report Check-InWas not accessible this time of year- May 1st, completely snow covered. We arrived in pretty late however so parked up just off the hwy in a large clearing/parking lot for the local mailboxes.
Report Check-InNice free BLM campsite just about half an hour before west yellowstone. Quiet and nice views
Report Check-Inperfect place before yellowstone in idaho, many places, fire rings, quiet in the night,...
Report Check-Inseveral spots and fire rings. easy dirt road. there were several rvs but everone is very far apart.
