Description

Agency which offers very interesting mine tours for 120 bol/pp, they take you to active mines in Cerro Rico, not to a touristic mine or museum. The company is run by real miners and they gave us a view of their hard work and life in their working space. David was very good and speaks english.

We did the tour today with Wilson and have to agree with the rest of the comments. This felt like a very authentic perspective of the mine and the lives of the miners there from first hand experience. We found Wilson to be very funny, friendly, informative and genuine and recommend everyone to book this tour with him. We were brought to the market, spend time at the mine and refinery and were driven all-around town while being told stories and facts about the mine. We really enjoyed this tour - book with Wilson via Facebook or What's App to support him and the miners!

on this location is the tour operador Ch' Astika now. We booked the mine tour with them for 120 bs pp. David was our english spoken guide. We are the only two and the tour was very good. first to the market/ shop to buy some gifts then to the mine and 1,5 hour in the mine. David works there as well.
We parked our van at the stadium and they pick us up there at 8:40 and we were back at 13:00.

We did the tour today with Big Deals, based on the encouraging reviews here, and we weren’t disappointed. We asked for the guide Wilson and he really speaks good English and is overflowing with info and stories from the mines, from the mining life, technical aspects of the mining and refining process. He has a good sense of humor and we had a really good laugh. They take you to show you the miners market, then the refinery and in the end you go to the mine - yes you ll leave with mixed feelings, but not because of how it s organized (that part was top) but from what you see. It’s really hard work, lonely, in the dark and dust, sometimes with a drill but sometimes with just a hammer for days. Leaves you thinking. It was totally worth the money and the time, because the experience is strong. Price still 150bob/p. Recommended 10/10!

Btw, we booked the tour one night before and as we said we are in a motorhome, they offered us to stay for the night in their yard (also marked here in iOverlander). Great as it is a fenced safe place, with toilet. Otherwise you can just leave the car there during the tour. After the tour, ccs 4hours, we where talking about places to go for kalaphurka, special soup from potosi, so Wilson offered to walk with us and even though we have already visited the city, it was a very pleasant stroll of 3hours, showing us more hidden gems and corners of Potosí. Just like that, because he had nothing to do and he likes people and improving his English. Super friendly!

Don’t miss this tour! It was SO interesting!
Really, for sure one of the best tour we did in South America. Wilson speaks very good English & will bring you into the mines & show you around! Really, he is such an amazing person & doing his best to make this experience unforgettable. Wilson works in the mine & as a guide when tourists come! The tour will leave you with mixed feelings - the work is really hard.
Please, support this guy & book the tour. You won’t regret it! They will collect you personally at the place your are staying & bring you back at the end. For overlanders they also offer a place where to park your car safely!
Write Pedro on WhatsApp for bookings & ask for guide Wilson. Also lastminute-bookings are welcome. They are really amazing & so hard-working!

Highly recommended! This „office“ is opened and looking for people who want to support them by doing this tour.

Our tourguide Wilson still works in the mine from time to time in order to get by. Still he speaks good english, gave a lot of (authentic!) info and has a great sense of humor. It was truly a crazy experience that leaves you with mixed feelings. We could even experienced a (planned) explosion from nearby.

Support these guys!

very informative and interesting tour! contacted them via Facebook and they were very responsive, organising a tour for us last minute. Former miners, Wilson had excellent English and gave us a place to park our van while we were on tour.

Report Check-In

The office is still closed but the company exists and organisees very nice tours. Best way to get in contact is facebook. Can highly recomend the company and their guides which are (former) miners. They are happy to welcome tourists again after corona crises.

This was awesome!!! Our guide Wilson (or Lama face) was great!! Good english, loads of infos and super funny!
You can buy some dynamite on the miners market if you like and try the hard work in the mine.

Amazing tour with Beto, a former miner. They told us very personal stories. Working conditions are brutal and miners have bad health due to Coca, alcohol and dust/gas in mine. Impressive tour.

Report Check-In

We are still impressed! This tour with real miners is a very authentic and unforgettable experience. 100% recommendation!

Report Check-In

Our tour in Spanish with Beto was one of my strongest experience in 9 months travelling in South America... This company works with real and actual miners ! Yes it's more expensive than others but you will learn so much information and discover the terrible life in the mine... A % of the cost helps them ! Really worth it, I recommend 100% !

Report Check-In

The best (most ethic and friendly) agency for mine tour ! The first and ruled by miners !
Probably something to see... but even though what they say, and despite of they are nice friendly miners guides... The workers are not very happy to see you, they don’t really care, they just want their gift of coca... It’s a very men world, drunk people close to the mine, alcool very strong, penis jokes...
Impressive to see and to live, but you don’t feel very at ease or proud to see that or be there !
If you want to see it, I recommend to do it with this agency or go by yourself to the mountain and talk with people there !

Hello
So great moment in family.
Our guide was Wilson and this guy was fantastic.
So much knowledge on this job because he was minor before.
They come with their bus to take our family to the gas station where we have sleep(estacion senor de la vera cruz) with our motorhome and we it was finish they let us at the motorhome also.
We have pay 150 for adult and 100 for children.
Our 3 children find this lovely and interesting and they are 6, 9 and 12.
Si great moment we there was the explosion of dynamite.
But take care it wasn't easy, you are with minor.who work so there is dust, it's dark, there is low passage and you are to 4000.....you need oxygène !
It's an adventure....
Enjoy.

really good tour. the guides are miners themselves and clearly know how the mines work and know everybody who works there. I was afraid it would be tourists looking at other people's suffering but with this company it is not like that at all. We were only six people and at still got split in to two groups. the guide's English was good.

Great Tour by Pedro!!!!
We enjoyed very much and even our 4 year old liked the tour.
150 B is a big price.... but its worth going.

Report Check-In

Highly recommended. 150bs/person as previously stated but the tour takes you to the sobering reality of present day mining in Cerro Rico. Pedro or Wilson, both guides, are ex-miners and knows everything about miners' life. The agency provides safety boots, helmet and clothes so you don't get too much dust in your own street clothes. Plus a percentage of the profit goes to the miners co-op at the end of the year.

Agency which offers very interesting mine tours for 150 bop/pp, they take you to active mines in Cerro Rico, not to a touristic mine or museum. The company is run by real miners and they gave us a view in their hard work and life in an interesting and also entertaining way. A part of the price you pay goes directly to the miners. Walking and crawling within the shafts is scary and sticky - with claustrophobia or asthma, don't do it!
