As of 6/29/2023, the gate is closed. Probably due to excessive rainfall this year rutting out the dirt road portions.

Made it to the top with 4x4 sprinter. We saw others without 4x4 but would NOT recommend it. Awesome view of the sunset!!

Stayed one night memorial day weekend, quite busy. Drove all the way to the end of the road and had to turn around which was not easy, private land after that. Ended up just pulling off and pitching near a turn off. Lots of groups, mostly younger folks.
4x4 high clearance strongly recommend, passed two drivers (outback and another sedan) who wanted to turn around because they didn't want to try some of the tougher spots.

Beautiful location to camp. 4x4 recommended. Ocean view to one side and hills to the other. Verizon cell reception ok.

Numerous sites along forest road just south of Plaskett Creek campground. The best sites are on top of the ridge. It's a bumpy drive but we made it in our 2WD pickup. Noticed numerous tent sites closer to hwy 1.

I would actually re-list this place as open, as one of the few dispersed camping places in the area. there are several locals/permanent residents on this road. from the beginning there are cones/orange markers/signs saying road is closed, but it really isn't. however not super RV friendly. with a smaller rig you'd be fine, but almost a mile up and there's not many great spots I could see an RV turning around. mostly just dirt road pulloffs, with options to pitch a tent where you're able. someone had a van down by the tree by this road (pro tip you get service/data on these bluffs if you go out a bit, sooner depending on your provider) and then he'd move it up to this area for the night. met another female with her dog that just said "yeah we live here" when prompted, and gave me lots of good info about the area.

otherwise stop by Kirk Creek and look for Mar and Shua (schwaaw- Joshua without the Jo). they're amazing camp hosts and will squeeze you in if at all possible and they're super chill and friendly when you approach them with respect.

Insanely beautiful spot.
Only saw about three other cars.
Made it up the road in our Honda Element.
Lots of space and views for days.

What a road! You'll have to sort your staff new afterwards.

But I think, the location wasn't correct. I drove 400 m further to reach a spot that looked like the one and made a correction here in this place.

To camp along the road itself isn't allowed and reasonable, if you see it.

We stayed here 1 Saturday night. The road up is steep and narrow, but we managed with our 2WD conversion van (recommend that you're comfortable with your off road driving capabilities or have solid 4WD/tires).

We stayed about 3 miles up the road along a wide turn. There are numerous spots along the rd, almost none are level (we didn't go all the way to the location denoted in these GPS coordinates).

Beautiful view - get there early-ish on the weekend as it's the only boondocking in the Sand Dollar Beach area, so it's popular.

From Hwy One take Plasket Ridge Rd uphill.
The rough dirt road requires a good driver or 4wd.
Up on the ridge you will find a handful of campsites that overlook the ocean. Great view and sun even when the entire coast is fogged in.
5 miles from Hwy One, all the way on top of the ridge there is a locked gate.
Only stove grills with a permit. No campfires, no wood collecting.
