Great remote bush camp north of Rooidrom Pass with a view to the surrounding mountains. The track south from here is very rocky, steep, big, high steps and narrow (2:20 maximum width between the rocks) - if you want to drive one of the bad tracks in Kunene, try it. If you love your car, take the long western route. To the north it´s slow going and rocky with steep, washed-out sections. No MTC-signal

Road in passable condition. Came from South to North with a Jimny, it's well possible without any padding. Most tricky parts are downwards, but climbing up would be possible aswell. The risk for the tyres is quite high as the rocks are sharpish. However, it is beautiful up there and we made it without damage. The road from this mark to Rooidrom and Marienfluss feels like a perfectly built highway after the pass, enjoy it!
Report Check-InWe went uphill (north to south) and liked the pass a lot. It's been built well and in pretty good condition at the moment, so not much additional padding needed. The "worst" part is ~15% steep. Low gear essential for uphill, no differential lock needed (Land Cruiser). It's an advantage to have two people, one driving, one guiding through the steep, narrow sections.
Not recommended for 4x4 newbies.
Seems when looking on maps.me and tracks4africa the name of this pass changes. Both red drum/ rooidrom pass and Jouberts pass are used for the track connecting marble campsite to the actual red drum marker
Report Check-InThis is actually Joubert’s Pass. It is narrow and rocky. Careful driving required. On the whole not too bad travelling with a hilux and defender. Low box and diff lock used for some sections. Just take your time and it’s fine.
Report Check-InWe made Rooidrum / Joubert Pass from South to North with our LandRoverDefender with an AzalaïCabin which is 2m wide. No problems at all.
Need for 4x4, low gear and high clearance. Track was in very good condition. Don't know if it is always like this.
can't agree with the previous comment.
the pass is ok just a little bit narrow as mentioned...
was easy for us going from north to south (uphill) with our cruiser, didn't need to build anything.
