Great, isolated BLM campsite right on the cliff edge overlooking the west arm of the Goosenecks, but well outside of the park boundary. Take the road to Honaker trailhead off of Johns Canyon rd (244). There are 2 or 3 other cliffside sites on the section of road after the Honaker trailhead. Full bars of cell service. Great little firepit. Beautiful views. Road is a bit narrow/rough but likely do-able in high clearance 2wd. Likely (?) not suitable for big rigs based of a few sections of road being a bit steep.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Amazing camp spot. Was alone on the whole Ridge. Can see the state park from the end of the road. Made it in a Corolla, but It felt stupid at multiple points. Would recommend high-clearance and 4wd if wet.
Report Check-InGot here late Friday afternoon. No one else around. Travel here made easier in 4WD low range via Sprinter van. When driving here towards gooseneck SP, make a right at mile marker 3. Follow along the rim of the San Juan River. Only a handful of spots along the rim. I camped at the end of road. Was a very windy afternoon and evening.
Report Check-InBeautiful spot! High clearance required! Last 1 mile is rough and rocky.
Report Check-InStopped at the pull off just before the exact location. As originally mentioned there are several spots you can stop at after the trailhead.
The site had a firepit already built and even a couple of stone seats.
Managed to access in a RAV4, would recommend a high clearance although didn't have any issues.
Report Check-InI could not find this place. Went down Johns Canyon road and saw no signs for the trail. Took the only left I saw and ended up at the other nearby spot (“Amazing desolate…”), but perhaps further down that road is the way to go?
Report Check-InFantastic spot. Great views and quiet. Road in when dry is surpringly good. With slow careful driving was no problem in our 2WD Sprinter 170. I agree with all that is said by the original post.
