This spot is just 100m from the other marked spot which seems no longer suitable (you'd have to park right on the road and get the direct noise, dust and stones from passing traffic).
Follow the concrete track a little uphill instead and you will reach a widening of the road, wide enough to get a bit away from passing cars and to park even larger trucks. Quiet, level, free.

Used this place to sleep before heading up to the Arenal Observatory Lodge to hike. It worked out well. There's more traffic than you'd think there would be but it was very quiet during the night.
