Great camp on the Zambezi. Only has 2 sites with a river view but the others are really nice set back a bit under the trees on grass. Has a pool and a nice lounge restaurant area to chill. Reasonable WiFi at the lounge area. You have your own open air ablutions with hot water. Each site has a wash up area and fire pit. Elephants wander through the camp and so do the baboons and monkeys! Bring a catty! Close to the Chongwe Gate. $30pppn - quite pricey vs other camps but well worth it.

Lovely! We were walk in campers and were allocated “Elly”. Large campsite on the river bank. Private shower and toilet. Below at the river we had our own braai and seating area. Lots of firewood and we made a nice campfire. Now $30 pppn. We had a beer at the bar and then also we were offered chocolate muffins and coffee for free! An elephant family of 6 came to have a drink in the river at sunset and the hippos and hyaena kept us entertained through the night. We had a good experience! We want to mention too that the road was fixed and newly graded and was a pleasure to drive.

Very nice campsite about 1 hour to the Park gate. Fire wood is free on the first night and 50 kwacha the other nights. Camping still 28 USD pppn, if you are not located at the riverfront. Extremely nice staff. They clean the ablutions and braai places and even do the dishes. Elefants come by regularly, one night even a lion.

Not that great. We found the Zambia Churundu area to be a big let down overall. People very hostile, places are run down and too expensive. Mvuu camp was messy and unkempt. only 1 spot is on the water and has some privacy, but you pay the the same price for the less good spots.

We called them before we went there, so everything had been cleaned. Stayed on "Elly" which is really spacious. Shower really good, nice seating area with fire place and good view. Ablution and the CS itself is up some stairs. Our camp attendant made the fire and cleaned the site. Even though this was all nice we didn't feel really welcomed. Staff was not trying to make us feel like a valued guest, they were not attentive at all, except for our camp attendent. The rest just didn't care...when we entered the restaurant they didn't even bother to ask if we liked something to drink or if we were interested in any activity. No effort at all even though there were only 7 other guests there all together.
On Saturday we felt like at the Love Parade - two boats cruising up and down, drinking and listening to loud music. On Sunday, luckily, it was really quiet.
25 $ are quite steep and how difficult is it to put a solar lamp or oil lamp at least in the ablution area?
We experienced more hospitality at other places and were quite disappointed about staff at Mvuu Lodge.

Really nice camp site (but expensive $25) but you get your own private ablutions and your first nights firewood. They also clean up around your camp daily and even did our dishes early in the morning without us asking! Great stuff. Nice bar and restaurant (expensive). Otherwise, really liked it but can’t stay too long at those prices.

Went there to ask for campsite, place was empty. $25/pppn, and even the ablutions were not cleaned (or even sweeped). Overpriced, though the view from the riversisde sites were nice. Wouldn’t bother with the other sites with that price tag. But too expensive for us, so we left. Went to Woods Camp instead, which is even nicer with riverside sites!

Report Check-In

2 nice riverfront sites but shower / toilet blocks were a bit rundown & dirty, so we decided to skip it - at 28$ ppn it’s simply too expensive for what you get.

Probably the best campsite on the Lower Zambezi strip! We camped on the shady and spacious “Elly” campsite with 2x offroad trailers. Private ablutions with flush toilets and instant hot water; private boma on the river edge and a dedicated camp attendant. We had elephants in camp one night and you can enjoy the roar of lion and hyena calls from your camp chair. They provide expert fishing charters and we managed to catch a couple of monster tiger fish! We paid $25pppn, kids half price

Beforhand: this campsite could really need an „update“. 6 sites, 2 of them near the river with a nice view. Each site has its own ablution and hot shower. If you can, book „Mvuu“ or „Ellie“ campsite (at the river). Baboons, hippos and elephants are often visitors at the campsites. We had an elephant drinking and mud-bathing next to our car - he used a leak in a waterpipe that has created a mud-pool..

USD28 pppn is to much for the conditions of the campsites. It’s a 45min drive to the Gate of LZ NP. If you come into the dry riverbed, turn right (south), not left (north). Don‘t try to reach the gate via Chongwe Falls. That road needs expert 4x4 skills and a suitable car.

Firewood and Wifi are available. Very friendly and helpful camp attendants.

Really nice place to stay if you want to visit the Lower Zambezi Park.

We stayed in one of their tents, with a comfy bed and en-suite for 75 USD per night (2 people for that price).

Bring your own food though because for breakfast they charge a ridiculous 20 USD per person and dinner is 30 USD per person. The food is excellent however.

A sunset cruise was 90 USD (for us two). And although that's a lot of money too, we thought it was worth it.

We drove around the park ourselves (30 usd pp + 15 usd for the car). But I must say that you can spot the same animals outside of the park (eg around the lodge).

Nice campsite along the Zambezi River with your own abolution block (which could use some maintainance), braai, sink and firepit incl. Wood. They even supply table and chairs.

There a two spots along the river and 4/5 a bit more in the back. The river campsites are 30$ pppn and the “garden” campsites 28$ pppn. It is quite pricey but the only campsite close to Lower Zambezi NP, although it is still 45m drive to the gate. Eventhough you will find wildlife around the lodge such as hippo’s, elephants, baboons, lions and leopards that can visit your campsite at night, if you are lucky 😁.

The lodge has most of the facilities with swimming pool, bar, lounge and restaurant all with great view. Wifi is available, but slow and very expensive. They also have laundry service, which is free if you bring your own soap.

Food in restaurant is very nice, but you need to let them know 24h in advance.

The lodge also provides boat tours, fishing, game drives, etc.

Great campsite. Very expensive. Unfortunately due to heavy rains no game drives. Did a boat trip which was very expensive and very few animals due to rains. At a better time of year this would have been amazing. Closes 30th November and reopens in April.

Great hosts and nice lodge and campsites. We stayed in both Elly and Mvuu camps right on the river edge. Both are big enough for 2 or 3 cars or 2 cars/2 tents. Restaurant food good and decent helpings. We had elephants in camp both days and there have been recent incidents in this area but if you are sensible it should be ok. No security needed but there guards to monitor elephants etc and to bring you back from bar or restaurant. Gas fired shower heater so always hot water and clean flushing loos. Usual range of game drives but note that the evening drive only visits game management area and not the NP so lions etc may be limited. Staff helpful and efficient. Service good. Camp helper can do most tasks for you and will light fire.

Fabulous campsite at the Zambezi river. Service is second to none: our dishes where done daily, campfire was lit for us and the location is fabulous. Private facilities, with outdoor shower and toilet. The riverside campsites even have their private platform at the river. Only downside: the price $28 pppn. But the facilities, service and location definitely make up for it! Ask for the Ellie or Mvuu campsite, as these are the best two.
