Description

Don’t let the name Rest Stop confuse you, it is not a rest stop, it is the name of the campsite. There are two campsites at this location. 018-Rest Stop #1 is opposite 019-Rest Stop #2, both off the same short gravel drive, off the south side of Rt 6. Google maps did not help at all with the coordinates supplied by the permit. If approaching on I-84 take Rt 6 East toward Oswego Sta Dr for 16 miles. If approaching from the west on Rt 6, the gravel drive is 1.7 miles past Costa’s Family Fun Park. There is a small sign on the south side of the road with tent icons and 0-18 and 0-19.

These are part of the free numbered dispersed campsites, located in Pennsylvania’s Delaware State Forest and managed by Pennsylvania DCNR, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, available by permit only. To request a permit email [email protected] or call the Delaware State Forest District office at 570-895-4000, Monday through Friday 8 to 4. You will be issued a permit via email, I had to print it at a nearby library.

Both campsites have a picnic table, #19 has a fire ring. There are no other amenities, pack it in and pack it out. Both campsites are level, the roads are in good condition, very private and surrounded by forest. When I visited October 15–19, 2022 both campsites were pristine.

There are many hikes and places to see in the surrounding area! The only negative are ticks but Pennsylvania is loaded with ticks. Be sure to check your pets and and yourself.

Latest Check-Ins

Small sized lot, good enough for one tent. Partially shaded. Not secluded, can clearly see neighbors in rest stop #1. Main road not too far off=lots of traffic noise. I prefer more of a primitive camping and this just makes me feel like I am back in the city. Otherwise very clean, very tick heavy. Comes with picnic table and fire ring. Road to come in is well taken care of. Can easily bring car/truck to campsite. Permit required
