Description

it's for what we know the only hidden place in the area close to the national parque. No facilities and it's not allowed to make a fire. A ranger checked out the place one morning, but just drove by. We stayed two nights. Really quiet and lots of birds. There are lots of spots to park even some places in the forest. We've a Mercedes Sprinter and the road was fine. To find the spot it's a small road off the main road to the left. Take your trash and leave nothing behind.

This entry point on the left (coming from south) seemed undrivable. It almost looks like it has been intentionally closed off as it has a very high mound of additional gravel and rocks. Maybe there is an additional entrance we couldn’t find… but our campervan could not make it over the rocks. However if you drive back south a short way (just a few minutes) there is a big flat place to park overnight on the opposite side of the road. It is really nice. There’s also a short walk you can do from the parking to see the river and gorge. No-one asked us anything, we spent a quiet night. We were visible from the road. A few cars passing in the night.

We LOVED this spot!! We stayed here for two nights, spending the day in between in the park. We followed the track off the main road until we reached the trees. Then we got out our van to look around on foot. Of you walk through the trees for about 50 metres, following the tracks around, you will come to an open space, right next to the lava flow from the 2009 eruption. We decided our van was small enough to drive through (Chevrolet N400), so we spent the night next to the lava - very secluded spot, nobody bothered us. There were signs other people had camped there - coal from a fire. There is a basic, but very nice restaurant (Ruta al Conguillio) about 1.5km down the road - very friendly staff, clean toilet and water tap outside. To enter the park, you MUST buy your ticket online in advance from www.pasesparques.cl. They will not let you buy a ticket at the gate. There is just enough entel 4g to buy your tickets near the restaurant.

Perfect place to spend a night before or after a day in the NP. Perfect for tents or campervans. Don't think a big rig would fit because of some low hanging branches.. Some trash at the site (we cleaned everything up), please keep this place clean and take your trash! 2 bars of Entel signal available.

Stayed overnight on a Monday night, when the park was closed, before entering on Tuesday. No visits from rangers. Site is beautiful, but it is starting to show signs of use with toilet paper and other trash. please help keep it clean!

Similar experience for us. We wanted to enter the park around 5 pm and had no ticket, as we weren't aware that the only possibility is to buy it online. The ranger sent us away telling that today is "sold out" and we can only enter the park by the next morning. However we needed to buy tickets online (13 USD pp per day), which is only possible close to Melipeuco with 4G coverage. We choose this place to sleep close to the entrance but outside the park. Police men came around at 22:30, but they were very friendly and said it's okay to sleep there.

We spent a perfect night here before visiting the park ! It's super quiete and isolated from the main road. You can take the path that go in the forest to be more hidden from the dirt road, even if we didn't see anybody going here. You can see some araucaria on the top of the mountain, and there is an old lava stream just next to the spot. We recomand.

We tried to enter the park after 14:00 and the ranger didn't allow us to go. There was no coverage for cell phones and no WiFi, so you can't buy the tickets. We asked if we can sleep there at the entrance but were refused. Ranger told us several times it is not possible to camp inside the park outside the original campsites. Price is 41000 CLP now and will go higher. We went back to the town and spent night in the campsite there-much more cheaper! Next day we entered the park and left around 8pm. No rangers and control and it was possible to enter the park. Actually lot of cars were entering.
