Description

nicely sized spot with a view of the buttes, it seems like you can tow in a 22 footer no issues, go over the hill behind you and you can get a mountain view on a clear day, dogs welcome but must be under voice command. no camping within 150ft of the windmill

A bunch of sites off the Pawnee Butte Trail Head road to choose from. We ended up getting one away from the road (Google Maps shows the location as "Dispersed Camping")-- blinking red lights from the wind turbines off in the distance but it didn't bother us. Pit toilets down the road at the actual trailhead

Beautiful. Some spots were windy but we found one that was breezy. There were some biting flies but bug spray seemed to keep them away. The bathrooms at the picnic area are currently closed due to recent flooding.

Nice spot. Beautiful view and sunrise on buttes! Surrounded by cows!

showed up late at night, maybe 10pm. just another car heading that direction. once I found a spot to camp I seen a couple cars in the distance setting up camp as well. quiet and the stars were amazing. Tmobile full bars and LTE connection, also Cricket also has service out here. road was dry. washboard was really bad tho. had to slow down to almost walking speed. the site I'm in is big enough to fit 3 campers of about 25ft each plenty of space.

Beautiful view of the Pawnee Buttes. Good quality dirt/gravel roads. Three bars LTE with ATT.

Great place. Very quiet. Gets a but windy but fine with roof top tent.

Easy to find at night. Promaster did fine back here and woke up to a gorgeous sunrise! Great stop for Denver to Omaha.

Report Check-In

travelled down like 18 miles down a nicely maintained gravel road past dozens of brightly lit natural gas rigs to find half a dozen vans parked in the nice spots on the ridge. Nice views of the small buttes from the top and trails down and around them. To much light pollution from Denver, Fort Collins, the fracking units, and the hundreds of wind turbines to recommend specially for star gazing but you can see pretty far from up here. Plus the countless small cactus make this not dog friendly at all. 2 out of 5.

just arrived and it’s windy and the fracking lights are eery but i’m excited to see the buttes during the day tomorrow. road is easy. two bars on verizon

Found a nice spot high up overlooking the buttes. Not many people here. Easy hike. Gravel road was just fine driving in. Enjoyed the moon and stars.

Remarkably beautiful views of the Buttes, sunrise, and sunset. A must for anyone looking for a peaceful & quiet area with trails to explore and an abundance of stars to gaze.

A very cool spot! We stayed 2 nights, some other overlanders went by but not frequently or noisily. A ranger came by as we parked and let us know we could camp anywhere within 300 ft of the road, that there were no fire restrictions, and that the wind and rain might be intense but there shouldn’t be issues getting out of our spots. We started out in an elevated pull off with a fire ring and a view of the buttes, but it was too windy to enjoy being outside so we relocated to a spot lower down between hills and we had no issues. We had 12+ hours of heavy rain on our second day/night and it took us 2 tries to get our 2WD van back onto the road, but it wasn’t too muddy. There was one impassable road due to deep water but we were easily able to reroute and get to paved roads. Definitely can be windy, but we loved the bird sounds and curious rodents, the buttes trail, and the proximity to Denver. Bathrooms and covered tables at the trailhead as mentioned.

Heavy washboards coming in. If it's been rainy you will need 4wd. No sprint or t-mobile service, but excellent att.

Great spot for star gazing and wandering about the landscape. with that said... fracking has really disrupted the landscape so be prepared for some unsightly and bright lights at night. Very windy but fine in our campervan. Beautiful at sunset and sunrise!

Beautiful...what views from up here...easy drive in...!

Really fine views and great for hiking. If you have an RV this place looks perfect. But I had an awful time camping here. Pitched a tent on a flattish spot near a fire ring. Parked my car so it would block some wind. The thing is, the wind didn't stop. Tent rattled the whole time. Wind would hit my face within the tent in every sleeping position. I ended up tearing down the campsite at 1 in the morning and went south an hour to a motel.

Great view, hardly any other people, would come here again for sure. If it was rainy/muddy you’d want 4x4

phantastic spot, quite right for someone that loves the silence.
all the oil fraking in the surrounding is not soo nice, but well, nothing is perfect.

multiple sites along the Pawnee Buttes trailhead road. intermittent Verizon 3g and limited 4g.

What a trail to get there! At least 5 mi of rough gravel road. Not for big rigs. But what a view! 360 degres on the buttes and a special line of red light blinks at the same time on west side of the horizon.
Voir photos.

We found a nice pull out overlooking the buttes. Easy to level on. May only get to stay a few nights as bad winds and dogs and possible snow coming later this week.
But it’s beautiful and fairly clean. Very spacious and quiet. I have 2 bars of Verizon LTE and 4 bars of T-Mobile. Both un-boosted.

What a beautiful place. Raids a little ruff but definitely worth it.

Stayed here one night. We had really nice weather, sunny with a small breeze and clear skies at night to see the stars! Amazing view, only saw 2 other cars in the 14 hours we were parked up.

Report Check-In

Camping not allowed right at trailhead, by dispersed camping ok, and there are a few pull offs on the bluff overlooking the buttes. Very quiet, with big grassland views.

Report Check-In

a nice place with view to the buttes. nearby is a parking lot with pit toiletts and shelters.
