Description

This is where the Wednesday passenger ferries leave from (ferries that it would be possible to put motorcycles on). There are several different ferry company offices here and lots of ferry agents who can give you quotes for vehicle ferries to Santarem, Manaus, etc. Don't accept the first price quote - our agent went from 1000R to 700R for a suite in a matter of 5 minutes. Hammock prices range from 130-200R, depending on the boat. And motorcycles are 400R. At the very least, you can find free city maps of Belem here at the information office. An there is a short, heavyset, red-haired woman who works in the information/luggage storage office who speaks English and is dry helpful.

We booked with Marcio from Copabam ferries. Ferries leaving to Santarem/Manaus on Tuesday and Saturday. The ferry is not leaving in this place but in Porto Olinda further south.

The trip to Manaus took exactly five days including stops to load/unload. Might depend on water level too. In Santarem we could go on land for two hours. If you have time might be worth breaking the trip in two and going to Alter do Chão from Santarem.

From Belem to Manaus they asked for 2000 BRL for a cabin and 2500 for a suite (whereas the boat didn’t have any) and 1000
BRL for a 1000-cc motorcycle. Hammocks cheaper of course. Negotiable. We agreed on 2500 for a cabin with shared bathroom including the motorcycle. The ferry was large but a bit old and the bathrooms shared with everyone not only with the other cabins. It was fine as it was still off season but perhaps worth checking if you go for the cabin option how many people you share bathrooms with.

Amazon Star offer the same prices and go on Wednesdays (I think Saturdays too) and we had the impression they have newer boats. Harder to negotiate with though. Just as a heads up.

For going from Belem to Macapá
I contacted Paulo Eduardo (+55 91 98389-1660) and he was super helpful. I travel by motorbike and booked on the Ana Marquez. R500 for the bike and R960 for a suite.

Try travelling on Mon or Wed, Paulo will be able to get better deals. Tuesday’s (my travel day) are a bit more expensive.

For going from Belem to Manaus -
There are ships that depart every tuesday, wednesday and saturday but there are different boats so some are smaller and don’t fit taller vehicles some are bigger (ferryboats).

We contacted several agencies. AR transporte asked for 2900r for the car only but we didn’t try negotiating, maybe it’s possible to lower the price. Told us they only have tickets for Wednesday’s boats.

Macamazon agency who sell only passengers’ tickets. They gave us the contact of Paulo Eduardo (+5591983891660) who works for COAPABAM and sells tickets for the hammocks/cabins/etc and also is in contact with the ship owners for reserving space on the ship for cars.

He’s very nice and helpful, met us at the terminal, drove us and showed us the docks and also told us we could sleep in the boat a day or more before departure. He introduced us to the ship owner of the departing ship of this day who was asking 2000-2500r for the car but the boat was too small for us (we’re 2.4m)

The boat that receives taller cars (above 2m) is San Marino II & III, we previously also contacted the boat staff directly and they told us the price for a car is 1700r. You can arrange directly with them and not use an agency: Geisa Mainara: +55 91 98613-9794 for car space reservation. You can buy tickets for the hammocks/cabins at the terminal, just make sure it’s for the same boat
:)

At the end we booked through Paulo since he tried his best to find a way for us to travel earlier and he didn’t ask for more money than what the staff told us. Even gave us a discount for the hammocks - 330r per person instead of 400r.

I’m adding the price list that we were sent for passengers and the card of Paulo.

Update: The ferry leaves at Porto Olinda, you can spend the night on the boat or at the parking in front of the boat and wait for the departure. Safe to sleep here.

Report Check-In

I negociated with the guys and got the ticket to Macapa in 300 the motorbike plus 150 myself. In hammock.

Report Check-In

At this location one can purchase tickets to also cross to Macapa
