Good spot, washboard to get up there from the main road for about 1-2 miles but no biggie. A few different pull offs to choose from, chose one that my 24ft truck and camper could easily get into. Fire ring, some trash, but great view for sunset! Pick up some trash on the way out and it will be a wonderful spot!
Report Check-Indecent place to spend a night. close to town. I used 2wd to access this site in dry conditions. lots of glass and trash piles. great views . No Verizon. Lots of flies and no see ums.
Report Check-InStayed at the base of the cell tower off the little 4x4 road. (across Pacheco Canyon rd from this site)
It was passable in my truck without 4x4 being engaged.
Lots of glass and junk piles. Gorgeous otherwise.
There are a few other spots in the area.
Great spot right off the road with terrific views of Santa Fe. like others have said be careful of all the broken glass and scattered litter around the area. perfect for rooftop tent camping. 5G AT&t service.
Report Check-InAbout half dozen over a three mile stretch of road. I just pulled off in a wide spot in the road. Great Verizon reception. Friendly neighbors. Close to Santa Fe. Great sunset. Only problem is night traffic. The number of vehicles in the night is far in excess of the number of campers I see in campsites.
Report Check-InBeautiful views, not too much light pollution at night. Good spot to stargaze, quiet. 2-3 bars LTE Verizon.
Report Check-InThere are three really great places to camp at this location:
1/ If going south on Pacheco Canyon Rd, take a rough spur road that goes off-road, uphill to the right at this location. It’s a beautiful and spacious overlook, but I would not attempt the spur road without high clearance and 4x4 if the road is wet/snow covered.
2/ There’s a lovely overlook about 1/4 mile down the communications tower maintenance road that goes downhill to the left at this location. There is a turnaround loop at the end of the spur road, but it’s probably too tight for big rigs. I would not attempt this spur road without high clearance and possibly 4x4.
3/ About 100 yards further down Pacheco Canyon Rd, there is a pullout with a good view that is easily accessible with 2x2, but not long enough for a big rig, 5th wheel, etc.
Great AT&T signal. This is slightly outside of the national forest boundary, so please be respectful of the landowners.
Report Check-Innice pull off. quiet. clean. little fire ring. cell is ok, wifi is strong.
Report Check-InI didn't find the spot at the given GPS coordinates. Then I stopped 150 yards up the road 35°47.818′ N, 105°53.784′ W. Quiet and nice view. Access requires a good ground clearance.
Report Check-Indrove all the way up there only to turn around. it’s about 1 mile on a dirt road.. i did it fine in my 22 fr motorhome but the flat overlook spot itself was washed out pretty deep in a lot of places- better suited for 4wd. it’s pretty far up a dirt road, slow going, and wouldn’t recommend for a solo female just in case you have to make a quick get away.
Report Check-Inawesome and quiet, road was a breeze. Good cell for catching up. weather was perfect and the view is killer
